Though either ways is good; however, depends on your travel days as well. For instance, if you are completing the circuit on Thu/Fri with Agra being the last stop, it's no use as monuments remain closed on Friday.

If you have some time in Agra apart Taj and Fort, I would also recommend to go and have a look at the Soami BaghTemple in Dayalbagh. Its also a full marble temple always under some minor modifications.

But definitely worth a visit.

re: Delhi - Mathura - Agra - Jaipur - Ajmer - Delhi : Route Queries

I am planning to visit Taj Mahal on 29th January 2011 and will return on 30th Jan 2011. I have checked and would most probably book my stay at Hotel Sheela & Hotel Sheela Inn Agra , but I am not sure of what route to take once I cross Sarita Vihar ( I will be coming from Noida ). Can somebody guide me on this?

Abeer,

If you are coming from Noida via Kalindi Kunj, take a LEFT TURN after reaching Sarita Vihar (to be precise- Its second red light under mathura road flyover after Kalindi Kunj red light; Apolo Hospital will be on right) on Mathura Road towards Badapur and Faridabad. Go straight on this road upto Agra.

You will cross Faridabad, Ballabhgarh, Palwal, Hodal, Kosi Kalan, Mathura and then Agra. Start early (around 6:00 AM) to avoid the heavy rush upto Palwal.

Cheers,
Irish

Visit Sikandra - Emperor Akbar's mausoleaum - on the way before Agra - dot on the highway - so that you do not have to do it again.

re: Delhi - Mathura - Agra - Jaipur - Ajmer - Delhi : Route Queries

I will be visiting Delhi with family from 16th to 23rd March on vacation. What is the best way to cover Mathura - Agra - Fatehpur Sikhri in one day?

Will it be possible to do Delhi - Jaipur - Delhi in a single day with sight seeing thrown in?

I will not have a car at my disposal.

Quite difficult.
To reach Vrindavan-Mathura, minimum 2 hours ex-Delhi
Vrindavan 1 hour
Mathura 1 hour
Drive to Agra 1 hour
Agra Taj Mahal 2 hours
Agra Fort 1 hour
Drive to Fatehpur Sikhri 1 hour
Fatehpur Sikri 2 hours
Drive back to Delhi, 4 hours

Add time for breakfast, lunch, dinner
Add time lost inside Agra city
Key problem is that temples in Vrindavan are not pen early morning, so an early morning departure will be useless. Hence, best idea could be to drop Vrindavan-Mathura & stick to Agra.

Considering the state of the Delhi-Jaipur-Delhi highway, be happy if you can reach Jaipur & come back!!
Sightseeing in Jaipur is a 1.5 day affair. With a few hours at your disposal, yu cna perhaps cver City Palace/Jantar Mantar/ Hawa Mahal or Amer Palace/ Amer Fort/ Nahargarh Fort, but not both circuits.

For Agra, you can perhaps take one of those bus tours that leave in the morning & return the same night.

The better way would be to do The Delhi-Agra-Jaipur-Delhi in one shot. With an overnight halt at Bharatpur.

Thanks. But I want to show Fatehpur Sikhri to my son.

Many years ago, we took a package tour by bus which left Delhi early in the morning and covered Mathura - Agra Fort - Taj - Fatehpur Sikhri and went back to Delhi around 10.00 PM. Are no such tours available now? Of course Vrindhavan was not included then.

Traffic has gone up considerably. Driving Agra city is hell.
Fatehpur Sikri is on the AGra-Bharatpur-Jaipur road.

Yes Gansan, such tours are still available. You can book the day before for a seat, and the bus will pick you up early in the morning and then drop you off at same spot late at night .
Check with the tour operator what all will be covered- the one linked here covers Sikandra, Taj, Agra Fort. But private operators may be able to cover a bit more (e.g. Mathura, Fatehpur Sikri) for a little more money.

Your other option, is to hire a private taxi. This helps as, you can actually get closer to the monument, than when on a bus - so saving on some walking time (from/to parking). Also, you can spend time at the monuments as per your wish, rather than being hurried by the operator from spot to spot.
In January , I would not recommend due to the fog situation.
