1. Since you are flying in, avoid doing anything stressfull on the first day. We flew into Leh a few days back and thought walking in the evening would be a good idea. But Out of our group of 5 people 3 people had their O2 levels below the normal 80% ( We came to know about this as we were made to undergo mandatory medical checks at our accomodation).

2. The Taxi's have a fixed rate. There is a rate sheet available at the taxis stand. You can hire self driven bikes but I doubt there are self driven cars available.

3. Include Panamik hot springs on 19th sepetember itself and then come and stay the night at Deskit ( A road bifurcates for panamik around 20kms before Deskit) The hot springs are right in the begining of the village, there is a sign board but not very visible.

4. If you do Panamik on the 19th you will have full day left to see Hunder sand dunes, camel safari, Deskit Gompa and 140 ft high Buddha Statue and to return to Leh by the evening.

The approximate charge for a Xylo is Rs.23/- per Km. But I have asked someone to courier me the exact rate list of The Leh Taxi Union. Will keep you updated once I get it.

The official rate list is very high. If you get friendly with your hotel owner, he will get you hefty discounts.

Bikes are available plenty for renting, depending on condition the rentel varies from 500-800. During our trip, we met a couple who flew in from Noida, hired a new Thunderbird for 700/- per day, old ones were available for 500/- he took a newer one to be on the safe side.

I know of a friend who rented out self-drive gypsys for Rs.800/-, but it's given only for very well known people who are vouched for. Sorry, I can't give any more information that that, as that would blow my chances of hiring out one on my next trip.

Thanks Ramkya, if you can't tell me than i will try to find him when i will go there and tell here. hahahaha
Now another question,if we won't be too adventures and do Leh Nubra Leh in two days and one day to pangon, can we do it on three bikes. As 2 of us are nearly 100 kgs, and 3 are nearly 75 kgs(as i explained earlier that one of us cant drive a bike),taking into account we will take newer bikes.
another one
On sept 21 when we will go to pangong, by which time we will be back to Leh because we would have to catch early morning flight on sept 22.Is there any risk of to stuck at the other side of chang la at that time( late sept),if yes we have to plan accordingly. Are you getting my point.

Hey boarders,
Everything has changed after that disaster in Leh.Lots of people has died, many are homeless after that night. What do you think how much time will it take before situation become somewhat normal, though it shall take years to reach its previous glory.

I think by mid-Sep, roads should be open and things much better. The Manali-Leh road should reopen this week and the Leh-Kargil road maybe next week. Hopefully!

Thank you HVK sir for your prompt reply.
What do you think, traveling to Leh around that time will add to chaos or help there cause as there economy lot depends on tourism ( i think so).More tourist means more work and money for them but for that minimum infrastructure should be there(of course).

The world moves on and a month is a long time. Wait and watch how things shape up.
