Planning to go to Mangalore by tomorrow night. Need quick help on the following.

1. Where do i have to turn to avoid going into B'lore city.
2. How is the road condition from B'lore to M'lore? Never been through that route so any information will help.
3. Is there any specific route which is more scenic for a leisure driving?
4. Its gonna be only 3 of us so based on the route we have to decide whether to go in scorpio or i10? thoughts?

Thanks aargee. This thread has too many information and it is very detail about many locations. i dont know most of the places stated over there. So i posted a new thread to get just the straight NH route and an alternative route for leisure drive.

1. Take the NICE road towards Mysore and get out at Magadi exit. Proceed to Magadi and from there towards Kunigal and join the NH.
2. NICE-Magadi-Kunigal: By and large fine, except few kms of very bad roads in Magadi town.
Kunigal-Yediyoor: Lane doubling work going on.
Yediyoor-Sakleshpur: Decent
Sakleshpur-Gundya (Shiradi ghats): Very bad
Gundya-Mangalore: Decent
3. You could try Hassan-Belur-Charmadi Ghats-Ujire-Mangalore
4. i10 should be fine, but isn't Scorpio better?

yes. avoid shiradi ghats. Take the hassan belur charmadi ujire mangalore route.

When are you starting from chennai? Are you planning a non stop drive?

Yes. all three are drivers so planning for a non-stop drive. At this moment, it looks like we might have to drop the plan. But thanks for the information.

What would be the best route from Mangalore to Chennai? The sakleshpur ghat roads are really bad! Need some help on alternative routes.

There are not many options, you can go via Charmadi ghat instead of Shiradi although it is only slightly better and not an excellent stretch full distance. Take the NICE road from Nelamangala upto Electronic City this can be done in 70-80 minutes safely, thereafter you can continue via Hosur, Krishnagiri and Vellore. I will not suggest the Hoskote, Kolar route as it is too tiresome sometimes to reach Ranipet after Mulbagilu.

+1 to Deehunk. Not many options there. The only alternative is Charmadi. And do note the ghat is steep and roads are narrow.
