Wow Avi, wonderfull hotel! I like this mandatory Dec holiday thingy of yours. I think i should start planning something in the same lines and have a whole month off every yr for sure. Else, the "wants" never happen and the "needs" don't let them happen lol.

Thanks Arun. Your right unless you stress these holidays never materialize. Decembers, i put my foot down to make it happen

My route is decided :-

Hyderabad-Mumbai-Udaipur-Jodhpur-Jaisalmer-Jaipur-Delhi-Meerut-Delhi-Himmatnagar-Pune-Hyderabad

Ranjit or someone else who is equally knowledgeable help me with break-down of route info so i can take a print of it to carry along with me

For example :-

Hyderabad-Mumbai leg

Hyderabad-Sangareddy (55kms)
Sangareddy-Zaheerabad (45kms)
Zaheerabad-Solapur (200kms)
Solapur-Indapur (60kms)....etc !

With info on where I can find petrol bunks, toll gates, rest rooms and other valuable inputs etc.

This break-up would be really helpful for my journey

And what do they get for doing this for you

I suggest you prepare a google spreadsheet and post the link here so that people can do additions. That way you will have all the details in one place.

Looks like your are slowly getting all set for your first major cross country driving holiday .

Cheers

Road Trip from Hyderabad to Jodhpur

Hello
I'm planning to do a road trip from Hyderabad to Jodhpur in my BMW 530D. I have a few questions:
1. I've never done road trips in a sedan in India so is it a good idea? Last I did was from Hyderabad to Ooty (Wellington to be precise) in Santa fe.
2. I'm taking Pune-Mumbai-Vadodara road compared to popular Nagpur road. Do I expect easy driving conditions?
3. Are there enough eateries, gas stations, repair shops on the way?
4. Are there unnecessary police checks etc which will kill time?
5. Are there any interesting detours (Not much but 30-40 KMs)
Any other suggestion, recommendations would be awesome.

I'm planning to leave Hyderabad on 26th and start from Jodhpur on 1st after celebrating the new year at my brother's resort. I'll be posting my entire experience as I go.

Re: Road Trip from Hyderabad to Jodhpur

Your choice of Pune-Mumbai-Vadodara is good. Traffic is heavy after Mumbai but road quality is good, aplenty choices on eateries, better road side assistance, gas stations etc.,

Since you travel in a beamer, better avoid the other route via Nagpur, Roads in MP have surprises, Pot holes, Cattle, renovation work etc.,

Thanks for your brother's resort advertisement. Looks cool.

2. Each route has its disadvantages:
a. Pune-Bombay route: Bad sections between Basavakalyan and Solapur. Refer pdma's post from a few days back. Its pretty comprehensive. You have to plan on Pune transit from NH9 to MPEW. Versova Creek is under repair, so expect delays there as well.
b. With Nagpur route, you are looking at crossing 'cattle corridor' via Chhindwara-Narsinghpur. Facilities are low as well.
4. For MH, keep all originals handy and do a PUC just before you leave. For GJ, stick that useless yellow tape, the rule is done away with 3 years back, but who will argue with corrupt cops.
