Re: Jaipur to Omkareshwar

Mercedised, Thanx man ,
I traveled from Jaipur to Omkareshwar on 29th Dec & returned Yesterday.
Took me 12 hrs.
Heres the road condition
Jaipur to Chittaurgarh - nice 4 lane road, absolute breeze.
Chttaurgarh to Nimbahera - 25 Km 2 lane road, very bad condition full of potholes.
Nimbahera to Neemuch- 2 lane road , Ok condition.
Neemuch to a Lebad ( after Ratlam)- newly built 4 lane road( toll not yet started) very good condition, Lot of Railway overbridge work going on which will slow you down, one has to go through Ratlam town as bypass not yet complete.
BE CAUTIOUS WHEN DRIVING AT HIGH SPEEDS AS LOT OF VEHILCES APPROACH HEAD ON FROM WRONG SIDE.
Lebad to Pithampur- Very Very bad condition , avg speed 20Km/hr & big potholes that can damge underbody of car.
From Pithmpur i took NH3( 4 lane) & after a right turn this road joins Khandwa Highway. 70 Km onwards khandwa highway is Mortakka , turn right, 12 kms from there is Omkareshwar. Khndwa Highway is 2 lane road , good condition but busy with 2-3 Km Ghats section.

At Lebad, why did you not take NH59 itself to Indore? Would that not have been better compared to the road via Pithampur?

That's good.

Although, I did'nt understood a few of the things:

1) After Ratlam and before Ratlam, both the roads have toll and it has been started almost an year ago? I do the stretch regularly in 3-4 months and all the time I have to pay toll??

2) Lebad to Indore road was also not good, but drivable, better than the Pithampur road.

3) You mean left turn from Mortakka? That's the way.

4) The road from Neemuch to Ratlam and Ratlam to Lebad itself is good and yes, there is another better way (though a new person would'nt recognize it). I doubt you must have taken the straight way (that goes through city, very hectic that is).

Lebad to Indore is not in good shape, it is drivable but yet one has to go through city. That increases fatigue (as the Khandwa going vehicles will have to go through a long city route and the entrance to city itself will be welcomed by jam or huge truck lines in front of you), kms and time too. Better if one could avoid that.

Thanks.

Re: Jaipur to Omkareshwar

Mecedised,
You are right , i remember paying toll 2 times(Rs 29 & Rs 13), the good thing about these tolls is that they have plenty supply of eclairs which they use as change, i took some extra
The bridge work is not complete after Ratlam till Neemuch & that maybe reason that major portion there is non toll, i crossed 2-3 toll plazas after Ratlam which have yet to be started.
Overall much better than road than earlier days.

Re: Jaipur to Omkareshwar

Checked out the Banswara route section. One thing that came out prominent is that no night driving on all these routes as advised by the locals. They said vehicles are looted. So better to travel during the day.

(This is about the NH113 via Neem Bahera/Choti Sadri/ Pratapgarh section).

Even the Ratlam-Banswara is not safe at nights.

Road condition: As usual in Rajasthan very good but in MP side, its OK to bad in many places. Its was amazing to see that right at the border between the two states, one could see the order of roads meeting there !

Few Random shots. (Ratlam-Banswara)

Re: Jaipur to Omkareshwar

Ampere,
I had the same impression as yours about roads in Rajasthan & MP.
But this aint true always. After crossing Chittorgarh towards Nimbahera i was so shocked with road condition that i asked some locals whether its the correct road.Road condition only improved after i entered MP border, it became 4 lane road.
On another trip recently from Jaipur to Mathura, the road condition from Bharatpur to Mathura was worse on Rajathan side.

Both these section of roads were small(10-20Km) & these small exceptions aside ,in general Raj roads are much better.

Re: Jaipur to Omkareshwar

What you say is true. In this case the local driver told me that trucks, who dont want to pay toll,
use the Nimbahera/Pratapgarh/Banswara road to Udaipur from Ratlam instead of the 4L.

Later I realized that the 4L is the reason, roads were good in MP. But then I was wondering if its an effort by state or center.
I think it has to be center if its a part of GQ/NS Corridor.

But having said that, I really enjoyed the roads!
It was fun have "meethi chai" and "spicy" samosa and poha on the road!

EDIT: Another thing I realized loca bus fellows/operators may not use GQ also as they would need to cross states and hence pay tax.
They would rather stick to a route, within the state, AND if is not a major detour.

Road condition - I have heard that upto Ratlam it is good, but no idea after that. You should need a full day to travel from Jaipur to OMkareshwar.
Hi, I need to make a trip from Delhi to Indore. I am stopping over at Chittor for the night, and going to Indore the next morning. Apparently, there are two options - NH113 and NH79 - from Chittor to Indore. Please suggest which of the two should I take? Which will be four-lane max distance? Tks

NH79 of course. But for some bad roads in RJ in Nimbahera-Neemuch, rest of the road is 4-laned and in excellent condition. However, because of road widening on NH79, avoid going all the way to Lebad, instead turn off NH79 at Badnawar and go via Ujjain to Indore.
