The route you should take is: Jalna>Aurangabad>Ahmednagar>Pune>Katraj>Shirwal>Wa i>Panchgani>Mahabaleshwar.

Please note that Katraj is a part of Pune, Situated on the outskirts. I have specifically mentioned Katraj since that is the route you should take after entering Pune.

The Khandala that Google Maps is asking you to go to is not the same Khandala that falls between Mumbai and Pune. You could take the Google Maps route too, but the one I’ve suggested will keep you on major highways for most of the time. The Google Maps route will take you on internal state highways which may not be in the best condition.

Thank you for replying. The route you've suggested is almost all the way 4 laned.
I'll do some sightseeing in Aurangabad and spend a night in Ahmednagar Or Pune. Then I can reach Manaby by noon, I hope.

I would suggest stay the night in Pune. Leave for Mahabaleshwar next morning at around 8. You should reach by 10.30-11. That’ll make your last leg the shortest and give you more time in Mahabaleshwar.

Won't go to Daund.

Also don't see any reason to go to Sinnar. Aurangabad-Ahmednagar-Pune sounds pretty nice.

Will try to stay the night in Pune if I can reach in time. That would be ideal.

I am planning to travel from Hyderabad to Mahabaleshwar to the near future. As usual I decided to check the best route on Team BHP but I am rather confused this time.

My post was about alternate route for travel between Indapur and Baramati.
You can take gmap suggestion to travel. Currently, Baramati route is not recommended as road widening work is going on between Indapur and Baramati as well as Bhigwan and Baramati.

I'm in mahaby now. Came from Aurangabad but will be going direct to Hyderabad now.

The old route I've always taken is Satara - Mhaswad - Pandarpur - Mohol - Solapur - Hyderabad.

Is that still the route to go by? Thank you.

Just got back from Mahabaleshwar. Stayed at Club Mahindra Sherwood. Did the trip in our Thar - petrol AT. 3 of us - wife, daughter and me. Had 1 small suitcase each so managed to fit the bags with one back seat down.

One the way out from Hyderabad we decided to visit Kas Pathar to see the Valley of Flowers. For about a month after the monsoons, the entire plateau is covered with wild flowering plants of all kinds of colours. Here is more info https://www.kas.ind.in/

Our visit to Kas Pathar was in the 11 am slot so decided to drive to Satara the day before - stayed at the Fern Residency - very nice place, great food.

Took Hyderabad - Solapur - Mohol - Pandharpur - Mhaswad - Koregaon - Satara route. Driving time was about 10 hours. Stopped at Shourya Wada in Omerga for breakfast.

Mohol to Pandharpur is a brand new highway - super nice!! Rest of the highway is ok - concrete makes it a little bumpy esp in the Thar.

Next day Satara to Kas Pathar about 45 mins ... sightseeing for about 2 hours ... then on to Mahabaleshwar via a narrow ghat road that went past amazing mountain ridges and and windmill farms. Took about 1 hour and 15 mins to Mahabaleshwar.

Return was direct drive from Mahabaleshwar to Hyderabad via Satara - Mhaswad - Pandharpur - Mohol - Solapur... Drive time about 10.5 hours

Medha ghat from Mahabaleshwar to Satara is very nice - less traffic and much of it is widened now with concrete roads.

Another word on road conditions in Mahabaleshwar... road from Wai is not in great condition esp Panchgani to Mahabaleshwar. They are doing patch work which IMO is making it worse with a lot of dust. We were there during Navratri holidays which is really off season. This patchwork is being done before the onslaught of cars from Pune and Mumbai descend (or ascend) in Mahabaleshwar starting Diwali. It is going to be disaster.

So my suggestion is check traffic on the Wai route and if you see a lot of red then take the Satara - Medha ghat road to Mahabaleshwar.

We also did a trek to Nanemachi falls in Raigarh district - drove about 2 hours from Mahabaleshwar on the Poladpur ghat - which is bad from Mahabaleshwar to the point where you take the left to Pratapgarh Fort ... after that is good ghat road to Poladpur.

I saw a few cars from Mumbai take this route (via Poladpur). Wonder why more Mumbai folks are not taking this route.

but in-short, except NH 65,48 roads are under massive construction, narrow or in bad shape.

Did a week long trip last week from Hyderabad to Mahabaleshwar and Panchgani in my manual Creta with a night halt at Solapur.

The route I took was the same GMaps showed
Hyderabad -> Solapur = 5 hours
Solapur -> Pandharpur -> Phaltan -> Lonand -> Khandala ->Wai -> Panchgani took 5.30 hours

Lonand to Khandala was a single lane road but the road condition was fine with almost no traffic.
There were a few sugarcane trucks but not too many to really cause any frustrating delays.
Overall the drive was quite comfortable. But I felt the traffic was a lot more unruly in Maharashtra than what I experience around Telangana and AP.

This was our first time to this hillstation and the trip was quite enjoyable for my family.
