Dear T-Bhp mates,
Please guide me on the following route:
Hyderabad-Kurnool-Nellore and back.
My only concern is way forward from Kurnool to Nellore and the road conditions during night drive.I will be starting my journey tomorrow i.e. 05th March,Saturday 2011 and plan to return by 06th March,Sunday night to Hyderabad.
Based on my enquiries,kindly suggest best route:
a) Hyd-kurnool-Cuddapah-Rajampet-Nellore - App.600kms one way.
b)Hyd-Kurnool-Cuddapah-Tirupati-Sri Kalahasti-Naidupet-Nellore via GQ.App. 700kms one way.
Please advise on Food joints enroute and Road conditions for a hatchback.

Hey Alton,

The roots A & B both are same since from Rajampet only you will reach Tirupathi(you dont require to go to Tirupathi, you have to divert near renigunta).

I made a recent trip via HYD & Kadapa(my home town).
the road is good till renigunta apart from minor Glitches/ Bad roads. but i will suggest you go VIA,

Hyderabad -- Kurnool --- Nandyal -- Kadapa -- Rajampeta --- Renigunta --- Srikalahasthi -- and then follow for some 50 kms max you will touch the NH.

till Renigunta road is pretty good but from Renigunta to Srikalahasthi & The 50 Kms is the single road and requires attention.

1) the Other option would be HYD-Nagarjun sagar - Macherla - Karempudi-NArsarao Pet - Chilkaluripet( you will join nh5 here ) - nellore .

Road till macherla is good , Karempudi to Narsaraopet was bad ( i had done the stretch in sept after monsoon , dont know current status ). from chilkaluripet you are on nh 5 .Traffic is less

You can try harita at Sagar .

2) We did this route mentioned by you a fortnight before , till kurnool is very good from Kurnool to nandiyal is bad and from nandiyal to Rajampeta is ok , road widening in progress . would suggest to avoid this stretch for night drives .

3) a bit longer but better roads for night drives.

Hyd- suryapet-nalgonda-mriyalguda-guntur-join nh5- nellore . should be around 60 kms more than both routes above. till suryapet very heavy traffic due to road widening , after that it is very less till guntur.

Try food at highway9 at suryapet.

Hey arjuna,

the road widening was earlier. i did the route in January End.

the road was quite good. max around 100kms its not good..(50 kms) near shrikalahasthi. and 50 overall till renigunta.

I think I'll stick to the Kadapa-Renigunta route.How's the Rayachoti -Renigunta option rather than Rajampet-Renigunta route?
Atleast on the Google map its a straight drive from Kadapa to Rayachoti than a diversion to Rajampet?Is it good tarmac?I really dont mind a bit longer route as long as its smooth enough for a hatchback!!!

I did the stretch in feb 2nd week to tirupati from hyd. both roads are good ,only the ghat section after kadapa in raychoti sector is very bad due to construction work .

Stick to kadapa-rajampet-renigunta . drive safe .

if you want to visit the Rayachoti road..then you dont require to got to Rajampeta.

now you cant go via Kadapa, since the road is closed for work..

you need to go in other road which is not good.

i will suggest to stick to Kadapa, Rajampeta..and renigunta..

1. As I gathere there are twos one via Kadappa and the route via Vijayawada. The route via Vijayawada is being 4-Laned and hence would have diversions. (Is that correct?)

Does really need to go all the way till Vijayawada or can get on to NH5 in a quicker fashion from NH9. Is NH9 also 4-Laned or being 4-Laned?


2. The route through Tirupati is the busy NH18 via Kadappa
(heavy truck traffic).


3. The third option as suggested was bisecting the two above options via Nagarjuna Sagar. How busy is this route?

Hey,

i don't think so you require to touch Kadapa if you want to visit Vijayawada from Hyderabad.

And where as if you want to touch the Tirupathi via kadapa, then that will not have much truck traffic since it will have more no. of Travels vehicles which will be plying only in the night.

not sure about the third option.

Been to Nellore via Kurnool,Kadapa,Rajampet,Renigunta,Srikalahasti,Nai dupet and Nellore.
Total - 728km ,Time - 12 hrs with 1 hr dinner break .
Route Condition:
Hyderabad - Kurnool - Excellent 4 way ,fast (220km)
Kurnool - Kadapa via Nandyal - Double road begins,Heavy oncoming traffic at night,rough patches ranging from 100mtrs to 150 mtrs.(138km)
Kadapa - Renigunta - Double road,Good roads but with diversions for 500mtrs ,rough road for about 12km,Heavy truck traffic,1st gear travel somewhere near a Railway crossing for about 5 long kms(198km)
Renigunta - Naidupet via Srikalahasti - Double road ,Rough patches ocassionally,Speed bumps.(110km)
Naidupet - Nellore - Excellent GQ (54km)

On the Return Journey,came via Vijayawada - Suryapet -Hyderabad .Total of 690 kms ,Time - 12hrs with 2 hr break.
Good Roads till Vijayawada (340km App),vijayawada -Suryapet - rough patches with ropes on either side of road ,bridge constructions,diversions .(170km)
Suryapet - Hyderabad - Heavy oncoming traffic,difficult overtakings,narrow roads ,rough patches for 1-2 km at a stretch.(130km)

Ride:Fiat Palio MJD
Mileage: 19 kmpl AC ,mostly 4th gear travel@ 40-55kmph, except on the 4 way to Kurnool,GQ to Nellore and Vijayawada,some good stretches after Vijayawada and on the ORR from Sanghi to Gachibowli which was 54 kms of bliss !

I dont remember clearly but it definitely is befor Kadapa after Nandyal because the diversion to Renigunta is 8km before Kadapa indicated by a clear board but it was in Telugu,so stopped by to ask at the junction.Also we took a break at the junction there sipping some water and stretching our legs after the really rough road.
The rough road passes through under construction culverts,2 railway gates as it enters into a town.In the town it stretches for 5 km!! particularly on the left side with a divider in between.The right side was quite smooth.
Correct me if am wrong as I was tired by that time and might have missed some markings.

How is the road conditions and how much time would it take ?

Here's my doubt:
I need to travel once in 2-3 months to Nellore, and stay in Bangalore/Anantapur.

I believe there is one route from Anantapur - Nellore;
Anantapur. > Tadipatri > Prodatur > Badvel > Kanigiri reservoir > Nellore, thanks to google maps.

What kinds of roads are on the route?
Like, 2 lane highway, any 4 lane anywhere in the middle, and any mud/village roads in between??
what can be the average cruising speed if anyone can tell me?
