Here's why I chose Etios over Dzire :-
- Space & lots of it.
- T badge. Although I hope it does not find favour as a 'T'ourist car !!!
- Longer service intervals.
- Call me blind, but I feel the Etios looks better than Dzire.
-
I completely understand and respect your selection.

The factors you listed are pretty much the ones due to which Etios is selling in good numbers today. Add to that the ongoing Suzuki strike woes and the resulting waiting list will only help the competition.

How does it look at the showrooms? Did you get to know if it's being booked in large number by the operators ?

In the official Etios D review, Vid mentioned that Toyota would 'not' want to cater to the "T" market initially. We should not be surprised if it goes the Qualis way and a good competition to the Logan (595 liters of boot space + diesel + T reliability).

Congratulations and looking forward to a detailed review.

IMHO you should go for Dzire. It has proved itself for years now and I don't think that MSIL would be discontinuing its one of the best selling products.
You can also take a look at this Etios site

Hi ankurvirmani19,

There is a thread that covers different problems reported in Etios outside this forum. Regarding the discussion on the referred website, you can go through the thread from the following post onwards:

P.S.: In fact, you can also go through this very thread, and you will find some information about the website.

Re: What do I do - Dzire D or Etios D ??

OK New Query for the Bhp'ians !!!!
As you all know I have finalised the Etios V-D. I had gone today for some paperwork to the dealership. Saw an Etios decked up in Beige interiors. Spoke to my S.E. He quoted 35000/- for the same. Was quite impressed with the outcome. The finish & color looked quite good. He said something about a warranty for it but I have to confirm. Attaching some pics of the original interior & new interior.

What do I do - Dzire D or Etios D ??-img00060201110051337.jpg
So what do you guys think, should I get it done? Is it worth 35000/-???

I had seen this personally when we were finalizing our Etios P.
It does make quite a good impression and makes you want to say why didn't Toyota provide this kind of trim already in the car and people would have kept quiet about the interiors. I had told the same to our dealer also.

It is difficult to say if 35k is worth for it but indeed the work is damn good and really makes it feel plush.

I would say if you want to and can spend that much go ahead since the car is going to be with you for quite some time.

However, it is not a great value addition to the car and you may instead want to spend on better Tyres, Cabin Noise Reduction, Underbody Coating, Music System upgrade etc and you will be set for better.

Re: What do I do - Dzire D or Etios D ??

Hi

I know i'm a little late

I recommend why dont you wait for the Dzire CS to be launched in JAN2012. Since you do not require a huge Boot, the new car will be perfect for you. Will be cheaper than the current Dzire by 50000 easily.

Cheers

I'm wondering if the new model launches by Maruti will be affected by the protests and associated production problems. Irrespective, I'm waiting for the DZire too - my Esteem is starting to show its age with some body rust. The smaller boot on the DZire does concern me - perhaps it can't take the luggage from the airport runs and I might have to put up with the mounts for a removable roof rack. I wonder if the mounts would look like WagonR-style roof rails. If it doesn't work out, the choice would be between an SX4 and an Ertiga, but I'm sticking with Maruti.

BTW, does anyone else think that the Maruti Eeco looks nothing like the Suzuki APV? The APV has a simple but appealing design - you have to see it in-person because the pictures don't portray it as it is. The classic VW van comes to mind with the APV being a modern day equivalent.

Re: What do I do - Dzire D or Etios D ??

I was in a very similar situation 6 months back, whether to wait for Dzire CS or go for SX4 diesel. But I heard the Dzire CS will have only around 300ltr of boot space and didn't feel that SX4 is worth for 10.7L(bangalore). Finally opted for current Dzire even though I didn't like the look for the car. But now I am very much happy with my decision.

If you are not interested in current Dzire then better wait for Ertiga.

Add to that, the excellent braking, lesser turbo lag, visibility and well tuned suspensions as well.
I'm an extremely happy owner of the Etios Diesel.

Also, with regards to NVH levels @ above 3000 rpm, I can tell you that you won't need to be on that range on your Etios Diesel, thanks to the combination of lesser turbo lag and tall 5th gear ( Engine is relaxed at 2000 rpms @ 100 kmph on 5th gear. So, 100 to 140 kmph will never make the engine strained. And the fact that the car is still in the peak power band makes driving in this range very comfortable ).

300 litres only ? :o
Hatchbacks like Fabia and i20 have got equally big boot space (not even considering Jazz !). And ofcourse loading is easier in a hatch compared to sedan.

And I don't think dzire CS will be 50Ks cheaper than the current dzire.
The difference between current dzire's pricing and new swift's pricing is 40-50Ks.
I bet Dzire CS will NOT be priced lower than current dzire.

Re: What do I do - Dzire D or Etios D ??

Difference between Current Swift ZDI and Dzire ZDI is around 90K(Bangalore pricing). So there is every chance that Dzire CS version might be 50K less that the current Dzire. So, IMO if Dzire CS is priced above current Dzire then it will go the New Fiesta way and it will help Manza/Etios sales.

Regarding the boot, current Dzire ZDI has around 430 litres, So Dzire CS might have in the range of 300-350 litres. As you have mentioned there are some hatch backs like i20, Figo having very good boot space.

Re: What do I do - Dzire D or Etios D ??

I am not sure about the ZDi variant but
VDi variant costs
6.5 lakhs,OTR for Swift
7.0 lakhs,OTR for Dzire

Odisha pricing.

Maybe the ZDi pricing is bit different

Re: What do I do - Dzire D or Etios D ??

I personaly would have preferred Etios over DZire. The rear seat comfort is pretty good in Etios. Although there are some cost cutting measures from Toyota, the Etios as a sedan has come up well as a product. I appreciate the engineering design of Etios. Only I do wait is to get some more time tested feedback from the owners. If BHP members comment over the After Sales Service of Toyota, their pros & cons on Etios, their overall experience would be very much useful for making a descision.

Exactly, it provides practicality along with excellent drivability. With regards to Service, it has been excellent for me till now. But, I haven't yet tried out the major service ( 2nd service ). I hope to complete it by 1st week of March. So, will pour in my inputs on my ownership thread

Between, if someone wants to see a very recent comparison ( after the new Dzire release ) of the diesel variants of Etios, Dzire, Manza and Verito, please refer the link on CNN IBN overdrive

The reviewer says he would pick Etios Diesel over the other entry level sedans inspite of its non-flashy interiors.
