One thing for sure ....... Maruti has no immediate plans to launch SX4 in Diesel version and if Diesel is your criteria and considering the budget i would say go for Fiesta TDCI.

However SX4 seems a good VFM car (although not test driven) but i dont think u can expect a good FE from it .... at the most 10 with full a/c usage i would say ............ thats my assumption bcoz its 1.6 and not detuned version.

Take ur pick and let us know too.

Although not aware of wat happened but gr8 that everything is well at your home.

Rahaul, good that dad is fine now...
Since both you and dad like the SUV image, check out the Scorpio and the Safari. There are many threads on the forum where these two battle it out and the TBHp favourite seems to be the Safari. As for me, i am also a Scorpio fan, but beginning to get attracted to the Safari too.

Leave out the Fiesta as eventually you would keep drooling at any Scorpio which may pass you by. A good choice, but your heart's not in it.

There used to be a series of ads released by Tata which pitted the base Safari against the base Scorpio. They have listed the comaparative features there, and they have also been listed out by Godfather and Vip3r.

We cannot wait much and my dad needs a new car real fast,so will not be able to wait till the new scorpio or the diesel sx4.

The scorpio is the base model having ac +Power steering.
How can u compare the Scoprio CR(U)DE to the other two. Since you are milage consious and therefore looking at diesel, I suggest you wait for the milage figures of the SX4 to be out here in TBHP.

Rahul, good to know that your dad is doing fine now.

I suggest you look at the Safari, else the Scorp. Remember - you have wanted a SUV for a long time. And what you get now will be what you will drive for the next few years.

Go for the SUV .. live that dream - now.

At 50-60 kms/day, you need a Diesel. But if you don't mind paying the extra for the fuel, SX4 Zxi is your best bet right now.

If its Diesel, Fiesta would be a wise choice .

But since you are so much smitten by the SUV bug, it comes down to choosing between Scorpio & Safari. I would choose Safari Dicor over Scorpio CRDe anyday (well atleast for the present!)

considering your love for the "bigger ones" i would ask you to have a test drive of the SAfari. The low end version is a real value for money vehicle at that price tag. But you need to be able to handle her within the 1500-2000 rpm range that you get to use on her. If you dont mind adjusting your driving style to the power delivery style of the Dicor engine. Then there is nothing else to think about. Just go for it. But of course you will have to live with the very small niggling problems that come attached with the tata. But i've heard that the newer batches have lots of improvements.

"I would never sugest the Scorpio unless you want looks and nothing else!!!" Now this has been discussed and founght over on various threads. Just go through a few.

On the other hand if you are going for a sedan. The Maruti SX4 is the value for money car from maruti. But the diesel option might have to wait for much longer. The Fiesta would do justice in that category to your requirements. But that would be only after you have checked out the safari.

All the best and Drive safe.

Love for SUVs, an 8 lakh budget, 60 km a day and some amount of Pune - Bangalore runs.

Only one answer - Safari DiCOR LX

You'll do all your trips in supreme comfort. You've got 3000 rpm to play around with (after the run in) and as steeroid says, a LOT happens before you touch the redline in each gear.

Its a little big for the city but only until you get used to the dimensions and feels at home on the highway.

my pich would be the SAFARI base Dicor model . You would definately benefit from diesel, and SAFARI is a great mile muncher.
If it is for sedans, take a TD of LOGAN diesel. It comes with huge space and has better street ptresence than tiny FIESTA. Also, heard Hormaz sorabjee, the auto guru recomending a buyer to go for LOGAN instead of FIESTA. Sadly, this new car from RENAULT has n't impressed T-bhp.

This has been discussed at length in various threads. Agreed, Hormazd is one of the better auto journos. But, what better than ownership/TD reports from largely unbiased team bhpians?! Logan maybe a decent car, but it is clearly overpriced and looks straight out of an 80s movie....

Put off 20K from safari's price as discounts. So it will be 8 OTR for the LX.
AC/PS/Power windows it has all three which you need.
Newer safari's are very very trouble free now, since Tata has selling them so much

We tend to assume that a diesel vehicle is the solution to all FE concerns.

But between the Scorp and Safari which one gets better FE?

Well, this should be the first time that i have heard anyone refer to the Fiesta as tiny. It may not be a 'wide-body' car as the Logan, but adequate space inside, unless you want to stuff in the gorilla from the Chevy UVA ad.

Hormaz may be a big name in the Indian auto industry, but one neednt agree with all his views blindly. Ultimately its the users who determine if the vehicle is worth it or not, which is effectively what TBHP seeks to do and has been doing quite well. If the Logan didnt go down well here, there are very obvious reasons behind it. 'Cheap' being a common trait expressed in all the reviews should mean something, and they werent referring to the price.

TSK, As for the FE figures between the Safari and the Scorpio, i believe they return almost similar figures, going by what owners report both on this forum, as well as on the Scorpio community on orkut.
