well after a lot of persuasion dad reverted back to buying the swift ddis but the LDi is the model we have decided on, i will be taking the delivery in a week or two! well i am at least happy now that i am getting a Maruti Suzuki Swift DDiS, though i will miss the ABS!

well since this model lacks the Tacho meter and POWER windows, alot of warning lamps, central locking, and a few other goodies, i have decided to compensate for a few of them with the after market ones!

i want to know a good brand of tacho meter the racing type that i can fix!

and does the key not removed warning buzzer come with the after market central locking system?

Its possible to fit a tacho to the Swift Diesel.

Congrats Rider on your decision, a very good decision indeed, you can check this thread for more details about the basics you should/need to add to the car like power windows and all.

no but i feel imo that the potenza GIII are over rated tyres instead go for yokohama, they have a good thread pattern that will even suit the wet road conditions, the only advantage of michelins is that they last 2-5K KMs more than the yokos or the bridgestones thats all!

Michelins are supposed to be more comfortable, right?

well the yokohams are comfortable too, bit the difference is very little to consider!,

see my personal experience goes, the michelin are no.1 over all package,

then the yokos for the wet traction based thread pattern and almost equal road grip with michelins, but are a little less grippy on the dry surface!

then the bridgestone potenza G III tyres, they are a bit over priced and over rated in my opinion,

then its the good year and so on!

The Bridgestones are way overrated and overpriced for what they offer.

VFM - Nothing beats the Yokos.

Price No Barrier - Michelins rule by a mile.

good end to rider's story: i am still in the lurch

Hi Rider,
Congrats for 'crossing the river', so as to say! You have now bought the car you wanted.

I am still in the lurch agonizing since the last two months on what car to buy. Currently, i have M800, which has be driven 85000 KM. I am now on a look out for a new car and my budget is 6.5L for Petrol and 7.5L for Diesel.

After lot of test drives and comparisons and no emotions, the list looks some what like this:

Logan DLX
Ford Fusion Petrol(Diesel is beyond my budget)
M Sx4(beyond my budget for a petrol)
Aveo 1.4(beyond my budget for a petrol)
Getz Prime D(still a small Car!)
Switf Diesel(the sedan version is expected, but when?)

However, i am still not convinced about logan- Purely, from an Engineer point of view, yes it may make sense but not sure how this collabaration between M&M and Renault will go through. As of now, M&M has already terminated its deal with Renault and Nissan on a new car factory in Chennal. Renault is talking to other manufacturers for its small car. Logan deal with Renault is only for 50K car. What happens next? If we remember , M&M had a deal with Ford long time back, when they brought out Ford Escort. Later the deal went sour, but fortunately, Ford continued its presence in India.

I am now wondering what to buy if not logan? The requirements are pretty clear: I need a car with big interior/boot space, low running cost, good engineering and reliability and very less maintenance cost.

I want to retain my M800 for some more time.

Any suggestions?

Aveo on Road 6.10

Whats the cost of a fusion on road? is'nt it more expensive than the Aveo? I just bought my Aveo 1.4 couple of weeks ago at 6.10 on road ex-Mumbai. Great car. Highly recommended!!

You could also look at the older generation of sedans: Ikon, Accent and Esteem. They all fit within your budget and may fulfil your other requirements as well (I can't really comment on that but there should be enough threads on each of these cars to help you). The Mitsubishi Lancer diesel might also have been suitable but I fear it would stretch a bit beyond your budget.

so the consenus from the above discussion is that michelin is best. right guys? I've currently got G3s in front and falkens in the rear. need to replace the falkens, finding it difficult to get G3s, might as well try for the michelins
