Used Baleno Help

Gurus,

I have never had a Baleno before, so a question for existing Baleno owners.

I am in process of buying a certified used Baleno VXi Oct 2003 23k KM in excellent condition. Everything is great except that I am finding that when I go to the 5th gear, it seems a little hard than the other gears. Is it normal or expected functionality or something is seriously wrong?

Thanks a lot in advance for your help.

Welcome (soon) to Big-B club! I found the 1st and reverse a bit stiff at start, but have started getting smooth now. Probably the previous owner didn't do the highway much. Why don't you check with the Maruti guys? Congrats, anyway, on your wise choice!

Msprabhakar,

Thanks for your update.

Anybody else with an update?

Khaadu75,

They are telling 4.3L but mostly will be able to get it at 4L. Will keep updated.

zenx,

There is one exactly same Altura as well. I will ask them and get back to you on price.

I wouldn't call the 5th gear hard. It's just a little notchy. You sometimes don't get that feeling that the gear has been solidly engaged.

Having said that this problem gets better with time. For ex: in my car with 5000+ on the ODO it's noticeably better. The reverse gear prob is a standard for all Maruti's. But there is also a easy workaround for that.

Just check with any other Baleno before ure decision(to be sure that the model ure looking at does not have the gearbox screwed). The gear shifts should be roughly similar.

A Baleno Vxi -23K old only is a great buy IMO.
Good luck deciding.

GEarshifts are hard in Baleno...anyone who has driven other cars will vouch...and yes..the fifth can ba a pain to engage sometime....just ask for a test drive of a new car as well to dispel any doubts you have

I have a Vxi for the last month. Yes the 5th gear does not fall in place easily, Have complained at the time of first service, but the dealers brushed it aside as a minor thing, and I was too busy to press on with this issue.
It is not a big problem. The car is great, go for it.

Hi All...I am looking for a Baleno and have seen on e here in Mumbai..Its a 2000 model, company owned and dome some 35K kms. The dealer is offeing at 2.5L but I have heard that a 2000 model should cost somewhere aaround 1.9L -2.05L..

Pls. suggest since I am selling my Exteem Vx 1999 model with LPG for 1.6L and going for a Baleno..

Would that be a wise decision..Pls. suggest..

Hi Rahul,
A 2000 model having done ONLY 35k is a suspect.. but you will ofcourse get it checked from a maruti authorized person... the right price would be around 2.25... depends on the accessories and how much you can negotiate.. and yes--- though you have not asked- the baleno runs beautifully on LPG!
Cheers,
Samrat

The throw for the 5 Gear is long, so it seems difficult, its not a problem

hey sunmoon.look for the gear oil leakage.it might help .LOOKS like the car must have been taken for a lot of offroading in the top gear.It may have damaged the gear shift pattern. the problem is serious and if you r not able to switch gears smoothly in case of emergency then it could result in an eventuality.Drive safe.Take care.
