Singles is what counts in tennis. No one really cares about the doubles. The British forever go on about getting a British winner of Wimbledon. A few British players have won wimbledon doubles titles but they do not get any headlines for it as the doubles are regarded as just side events of very little consequence. The same with the Aussies, the woodies (Woodbride and Woodforde) were the most successful doubles team ever but they hardly got any attention.

The 'master blaster' got done by a perfectly normal straight delivery today....NOTHING special about that ball.

There comes a time when people have to look beyond the hype created by past performances and decide whether he deserves a place in the team simply because of his media savvy managers. IMHO the only reason he plays these days is to look for that inconsequential match or lousy opposition so that he keeps adding to his records slowly.

The country has done its part by giving him a break that early in life - its now upto him to do his part and avoid overstaying. Team India does not exist to facilitate his records.

Even today Sachin is one of the best in taking the ***** at his eyes till the last moment. Equal no of critics are there as die hard fans for Sachin. Sachin is the player who was closely watched in this cricketing world than any one else. Pressure is on and on for him. I agree that Sachin match winning innings are fadded away. But his experience is requried for the youngsters to groom in international conditions that too till he becomes a burden to the team (certainly not now)

No doubts. Sachin is not at his best. But also remember two or three consistent performance would bring back Sachin in the lime light

Very true .. If 'dada' needs to sit out, play Ranji to get back his form and prove himself to be among the top 16 players, so should any other team India player ..
And am not saying this because I'm a bong !

Very true. And it is crazy that we have to put in disclaimers too.

Time to revive this thread!!!
The occasion???
MS Dhoni has been ranked the NUMBER 1 BATSMAN in ICC cricket ratings, overtaking the great Ricky Ponting!!
Now thats some achievement, eh?

But why am i getting this nagging feeling that i am missing something here??

It was hard to think ever that an indian wicket keeper would top the ICC cricket ratings.....
Well Done DHONI...Keep it going....

It is indeed a great achivment. He is been playing for like 6 months??? 7 months?
But, still i couldnt forget how out if place he looked against SA. And then most of his performance were in sub-continent. We will have to see how he performance down under or in england. WI will also be a nice test for him.

Ah exactly!!! You have hit the nail on the head!
We are yet to see Dhoni perform at all kinds of venues... most of the matches he has played. Its still wayyyy too early to think that Dhoni is better than the likes of Ponting and Gilchrist. Just becoz he has been ranked number 1 doesnt make him the best.
