re: Internet censorship

Good that they are all trying to fix few holes. But it will result in several others holes popping elsewhere and water will still leak

re: Internet censorship

I do not know why people are so daggers drawn towards porn. Its an industry (albeit an offbeat one) like any other - watch it if you like it, don't watch it if you don't like it. Simple. BTW the porn behemoth production house digital playground's (controlling 40% of industry) decision to switch over to Blu Ray disc (along with Warner Bros) was a decisive blow to HD DVD.

re: Internet censorship

Government is not involved in this BAN. It's simply Reliance Big Pictures strong arm tactics to stop piracy of it's new movie "Singham" with the help of a Jon Doe Court Order from Delhi High Court.

Files Sharing Sites Blocked In India Because Reliance BIG Pictures Got A Court Order - MediaNama

you mean mediafire works too? Which ISP do you have?

I have airtel and mediafire wasn't working last I checked - though all of the other half a dozen sites in the list I checked were working.

EDIT: it is working at my office - will see at home again.

I use airtel and last night when I tried (post #3 on this thread) MediaFire wasn't working.

Now it is working.

I read the article in the post above - I think ISPs were bullshitting on this one and later realised that they may be sued by the customers too eventually - many of these sites have legitimate business model (rapidshare takes down any reported content very rapidly) and legitimate customers so basically these sites and their users can also sue ISPs.

re: Internet censorship

Considering the brain matter(or lack thereof) in these organizations which control the telecom/internet infrastructure, I am not surprised.

What next, block all sites which talk against the govt?

Speaking of reliance court order, lets say I go to court saying that nobody should die on NH1 tomorrow, and court directs govt to do so(since death in road accident is more severe than movie piracy, the court should have no problem in such orders, right?), then basically it will mean govt will block NH1. right?

This is the stupidity going on here.
ISP is just a common carrier, just as rapidshare etc., are
All these sights take down in case of illegal activity being reported.

Same thing for me. Rapidshare was not working last night, but working now. I too use airtel.
Looks like the telecom companies figured out that they'll lose big business if these sites are blocked. Lesser downloads mean people won't upgrade to faster speeds, which means less business for ISPs.
