re: Internet censorship

For the record, I'm still able to access RapidShare using my BSNL BB.

Makes me wonder if DOT ban the anonymous proxy sites too!

I tried 8-9 sites out of what you have mentioned. Except for MEDIAFIRE every one of the others is working - mediafire does say blocks by DOT.

Also you seem to have taken the list from:

Same list everywhere. Could not post the source as I'm posting from my phone.

The rolling out of the ban will be ISP wise.soon everyone will be affected

re: Internet censorship

It might take some time for the DNS to get refreshed, after which the sites won't open. Anyways, talking about torrents, there are 1000's of private trackers out there, there is no way they can ban everything.

re: Internet censorship

Haven't checked up on this, but I'm personally against all forms of censorship.

In my view, Censorship impedes the natural evolution of human society, by becoming a means to impose old / conservative / majority (presently) perspectives, on coming human generations. Hence, I think that every individual needs to be given an ecosystem, where he or she has the ability to choose what thoughts or pursuits to follow.
Again, judging in the wider context of society, such pursuits may be JUDGED as right or wrong, but that judgement is relative, and liable to change over time. That change MUST BE ALLOWED!

I look forward, but will not be alive to see, the day when human society allows itself complete freedom.

Tried using one proxy server. Blocked. Second one is Ok. I guess this is only a matter of time before this too goes.

Reminds me of license raj. Govt trying to meddle into petty things when the people are dying of hunger an diseases. And that age old crusade against "the oldest game in town". Oh god. When will it stop. Grow up hypocrites.

re: Internet censorship

I think this is them trying a blanket directive to counter incidents like:
Staff watches porn, Haryana roadways asked to pay Rs 62k bill

all the 2shared type sites also host clips etc.
all types of 'em.
Private ISPs may have tried blocking in anticipation, but i am sure NIC will have fully blocked out these sites.

This kind of jasmine ban will not work here, i feel

re: Internet censorship

Welcome to the new iron curtain. Are we also heading towards some dictator's regime where they want to decide what is good for us and what is not? Why such bans on file sharing? Do they expect us to use Indian postal service to send out big sized files to another person instead of using file sharing services? What is next? Block all email sites too and then probably even block online shopping and then all the forums such as this? What is going on here? These old thought policymakers will take the country only backwards. Till now things are working with Airtel, but for how long.

Guess not. It will come back in a different route. I believe, there will be revolutionary ways to access these going forward.

re: Internet censorship

Banning porn sites ok, but what about site hosting movies, so Govt wants us to buy original cds of all movies else go to multiplex and pay 300+ to watch them? In that way youtube may also get banned IMO.
