Team-BHP merchandise options...

reading Rudra's quote from The TBHP T-Shirt Design Thread which i've listed here for quick reference, i'd like to make some suggestions :-

The main issue is the logistics. To make T-shirts for members (4000+) in different size is not a cake walk. Standard good printing in good/decent material (bulk) is possible in Tirpur, Tamilnadu. But most of the garment manufacturers there are booked with other orders. But I’m not saying that’s the only place to print. Now look at the cost:

Plain T-shirt (good material) in bulk, @ 100/-. Let’s take a fictitious quantity of 2500. So we’re talking about 250000/-printing (depending on complexity) may vary from 30/- to 50/-. So let’s take 75000/- to 125000/-. Post that there is packing, forwarding and sending them to different places. I don’t have an exact figure for this but depending on courier services, it’ll be 70/- to 200/- for a kg. Since I have no idea about 2500 t-shirts weight, I cannot put a figure next to it.

Collecting and arranging funds in one place would be a nightmare. Let me assure you that. Support team members are either working or seriously engulfed in their studies. I really don’t see this happening in that way, unless we have different thoughts. Here it goes:

1. We can have city specific printer. One/two members from each city can take the initiative to collect money for the T-shirts. They also have to identify the printer/s from their city. Cost may vary from city to city but nobody has any control on that. Identify the printer. Contact your members (interested) in that city through PM. Ask them about their preferred T-shirt size. Collect money. Get them printed. Let members collect them from one address. Tell printer that you may go for re- printing so he should keep all the artwork, film positives carefully.

2. Start designing T-shirt. It’s fun for those who love doing design. PM them to me. We at support team will take a call on designs and choose a few for final printing. Once the designs are finalised, artwork of those will be made. I’ll take care of that part.

3. We may end up having 3 to 4 (coded with number) final designs. Final designs will be posted on forums, so that interested members can decide which one to go for and on what size.

4. While checking with the printers, please check in which way they want the artwork. It could be positives or electronic artwork (CD) in particular application/software. Let support team know about this well in advance. Artwork (from support team) will reach city specific organisers in due time.

5. Members from overseas can choose design/size and let support team know. Shipping/courier cost would the addition along with the T-shirt cost.

It surely looks pretty complex but this is the only sure footed way to have TBHP T-shirts across the country.
please note that these are just basic suggestions which may / may not be taken into account in the future......

for starters, i don't know whether the Mod-Team is really interested in such a venture or whether such a venture is currently feasible but in any case i do have a couple of suggestions regarding team-bhp merchandising options.

1. i'm a member on MBWorld.org and they have their own online shopping area located here -> MBWorld.org Apparel and Collectable Store.

i'm aware that Team-BHP.COM is just starting out and all the Moderatos are working professionals or students, and don't do this as a full-time job.

i'm not aware regarding the costs involved in upgrading the website and other details but as far as my knowledge extends, an online-shopping arena would make more sense than the previous method which involved wire-transfers to a bank account, etc.

2. pick-up a couple of sponsors (no pop-ups please!!), put their adds on the website so that every click on the ad earns you some money from the sponsor.

3. setup an account (eg. a PayPal account) where you guys can accept donations. maybe you won't get much benefit out of that but every little bit should help as i'm sure the Moderators are spending out of their own pockets to keep this site running.

thats all i can think of for starters, will try and add to it if further options come to mind.

BHPians please add your own inputs to this thread.....

i dont agree with this idea of making our site a profit making business. i think the mods are dopin a grt job by spending tehmselves in upkeep of this site. but being a forum, it is the most indistractive forum where you can concentrate on hte threads and not on the ads.

secondly the shopping kind of thing requires a lot of co ordination as well as logistics to have something like this.

i think we have team bhp stickers ans all bhpians have the option of choosing to buy them so that should be enough, i think.
