Re: Jagjit Singh passes away.

Jagjit Singh was my favourite singer. I remember when I was in college and watched him sing a Bhajan on TV. I was instantly hooked and have been listening to his songs ever since. Infact, for the past few months, his songs from 'Arth' and 'Prem Geet' have been on my playlist everyday. The world has lost a great singer today. May his soul Rest In Peace. We will miss you a lot :( .

Re: Jagjit Singh passes away.

This is sad news, though somewhat expected since he was in critical condition for a while following a brain haemorrage. I watched Jagjit Singh live at IIM Bangalore some years ago: it was very close to where I was living at the time and the tickets were virtually given away, so took my wife and parents along as well. An inimitable voice- nobody could match the amount of dard (pain) in his vocals- and quite the entertainer as well, I was pleased to find out! RIP.

Re: Jagjit Singh passes away.

His was the first name that would come up on our minds, when the word "Ghazal" in the present day scenario was cited. It was perhaps his propriety that he very rightfully earned and also deserved, in our country as the modern day King of Ghazals.
The singer has made a vast contribution in the field of music by way of his rendition of ghazals and more ghazals for the mass audiences. His songs were so easy to follow and hum and one also wished he or she could listen to them all day long.
A terrible and irreparable loss indeed ! You will be very badly missed Jagjitji!

Re: Jagjit Singh passes away.

A terrible news for music lovers. For someone who has been listening to his songs/gazals for almost two decades, its a heartbreaking news.He brought the gazals to common man otherwise gazals are not meant for everyone. He had so much pain in his voice,no wonder his best composition were sad songs/gazals like chithi na koi sandes.
My favorites albums were hindi movies Saath/Arth and Shiv Batalvi compositions in Punjabi e.g.Shikra yaar.During the audio cassettes era I always bought Saath/Arth cassette everytime I lost it.He was probably not his usual self ever since his only son died in accident in Mumbai few years back.

RIP Jagjit! you will be alive in our hearts forever!

Re: Jagjit Singh passes away.

After visiting Mirza Ghalib's home in Chandni Chowk, the best experience I had in bringing back the couplets of Ghalib alive was through Mr.Singh's redention. There is this short serials he produced for Doordarshan on the life of Ghalib, that is how I would like to remember him. RIP

A great artist. But he lost my respect after his baseless comments on Rehman. A great person would acknowledge another great and not belittle him.

Well those were his views, we can just agree or disagree on them.
R.I.P Jagjit Sahab, you will be missed by the world.

Someone on Facebook posted," Looks like Steve Jobs couldnot fix God's iPOD, he called Jagjit Singh for a Live Performance".

Re: Jagjit Singh passes away.

Sad news indeed.

He was the only Indian Ghazal maestro / legend / king.

Re: Jagjit Singh passes away.

God called Steve Job's so that he could get an ipod. Then He called Jagjit Singh to put gazal's in it. So unfair.

R.I.P Jagjitji.

One of the fast vanishing tribe of Indian music legends. He had his original style, deep sonorous voice and best he used to sing with feeling in his voice and that's why his compositions "dil me utar jaate the" I have been his long time fan although could not get the opportunity to see him perform. His one CD is my constant companion in my Altis and keeps us cool in the maddening chaos of NCR.

Javed Akhtar rightly said that he was one of the greatest because despite singing very less in films, he was so popular.

Bhagwan unki atma ko shaanti de.

I know I'm late, but here's a little tribute I did for the master.
