Re: The Indian Rock Music Thread

Is there anyone here who was alive in the 60s and 70s and knows real Rock instead of the shit that passes for talent these days? If so, are there any Indian bands who play such music?

I am not looking for any fusion or any Carnatic or Hindustani or such - I am looking for the classical rock or Blues sound. Stevie Ray Vaughan, Cream, Zeppelin, Johnny Winters, Jeff Beck, Satriani, Vai, Van Halen, Floyd, Muddy Waters, George Thorogood, stuff like that with nice guitar work?

Cheers

Cheers

Used to be some good bands in the later 80's and early 90's...

Rock Machine which later became Indus Creed for some reason
Shiva from Calcutta
13 AD from Cochin which disbanded
Then a bunch of my college mates in Madras who recently had a great show I believe...

Shankar Balan, thank you for this list. I shall see if I can find any of their music online to listen and maybe buy.

Cheers

I heard it and said, sounds very British for good reason, the band name sounds very brit. When my friend told me where the band originated, I had no words left. To support the band in the smallest way possible, I have pre ordered their first album on CD. Can't wait to blast Nagavalli.

I believe Warren of the Blackstratblues has got the class (no idea if he is coming up with new stuff).
He was the guitarist of the Band Zero.

Re: The Indian Rock Music Thread

Surprised nobody brought up Colourblind in this thread yet. The Mumbai duo peaked in the mid-90s with their self-titled album on Sony Music that also featured a .

Guitarist Siddarth Achrekar and singer/keyboardist/drums programmer Ram Sampath, with some help from Karl Peters on bass, released a rock album to be proud of back when Indian rock was characterised by cheesy lyrics, awkward stage presence and self-conscious videos. Definitely ahead of their time. Sadly the band didn't last: Sid went on to pursue a career in graphic design and is now settled in the Bay Area, while Ram Sampath morphed into a fairly successful jingle writer and singer who also made his mark in Bollywood (he sang the Bhaag Bose DK song in Delhi Belly and composed the soundtrack of Aamir Khan's Satyameva Jayate, among others).

The album, especially the title track, is a favourite on my playlist even now. Check out this page, which will link you to most of their videos on Youtube.
