Hi guys these are a couple of pics of my 2month old lab "snoozy". A very energetic dog for half an hour to chew my shoes, then sleeps for 3hours but i just love him:).

^^ Man! look at those expressions. He's very cute!

The 2nd expression is the best. Whenever I see the pets in this topic, I go and give a kiss on the cheek to my lab :)

Reaching CUPA is quiet eazy, Makeri Circle --> Bellary road (towards Bangalore international airport).

Go towards the Airport, as you reach the first flyover, take the road that is beside it. You should not get on to the flyover.

The facility is on the left, inside the University of Agricultural Sciences campus , so keep an eye open for a sign board that says some "Karnataka Sheep ....Welfare", this is the gate that you should use to enter the campus.

Once inside, go straight, then take the first right, then after about 150 meters and on your right side you would see the CUPA facility. There is a big board and usually a CUPA ambulance is parked outside.

They also take rice, ragi, milk and food items that you are willing to drop there.

One more Rottie owner to that list - Heres a few photos. As for the diet, its usually milk and roti in the morning and rice and beef mince later on. Both our Rotties used to be on Royal Canine puppy food initially.

Nice snaps Samir! I have never played with rotties, are they very aggressive? You have 2 males or a male and a female?

He is one cute little boy, I like his expression in the third picture. This is the same expression our Tomy used to do after commiting any CRIME, as if he is the most innocent doggy in this world.

@latheesh this is the expression my pup has when he has chewed and drooled all over my shoes and i am giving him a lecture about it(my friend took that pic).

I have one male and a female.

The male is older and as a puppy used to be slightly aggressive- just the usual stuff - he would growl, snap etc if you tried to take a stone away from him, didn't like the small of his back being touched, etc - but now he's quite docile. He's only eve gone for one person, but that was because they approached the house in the night. Otherwise he's generally very playful and warm with family and friends he knows. if its people he doesn't know, he just keeps his distance.

The female on the other hand (will upload photos soon), hasn't had her tail cropped (We decided not to) and has ADD. She craves attention and will happily sit around being petted for hours. Again like most house dogs i guess, she is very wary of strangers and not to fond of the villagers.

All our dogs are at our farm - There 2 Rotties, 2 German Shepard's and a Mudhol Hound (Puppy).

So any particular reason for starting home cooked food instead of the royal canin.I'm a bit confused.There are people here who have had champion rotweillers and they have fed them with royal canin throughout the lives.Along with some multivitamin and oil supplements.
And then i have been going through some rotweiller forums which suggest not using packed food but home cooked food.

So i'm looking for some advice here.If there is even 0.1% harm in packed food i won't use it.
The only reason i'm looking at royal canin is that its known to be the best food available and has a lot of other nutrients which regular home food cannot provide.

I don't know about rotties but let me tell you what happened in my case. I took my lab when he was 26 days old. After 3-4 months, I started giving him Royal Canin. This continued upto 1 yr 2 months. After that, he lost interest in such food. Do whatever, he just wouldn't eat t. From that time, I started giving him bread + chicken. Now after many months, I have again brought RC and he loves it. Now I give that to him only once a day, twice he eats bread.

P.S : When he was habituated to RC, I tried other dog food like Pedigree, Propett and IAMS dog food. He didn't eat even a single morsel.

Good to know that you are getting a rottie. Try not to separate her from her mother until 8 weeks(min). If you are buying it for show purpose then you must take few precautions before going ahead with the puppy. Here are few pointers:
1. Check her feet, they shouldn't be east-west.
2. Does the dam/sire suffer from HD? If yes, I wouldn't recommend.
3. Color as per breed standards(I'm pretty sure you know how a rottie looks).
4. Lips should be black.
5. Dark brown eyes.
All these doesn't matter if you don't want a show dog.

Coming to the diet, you should feed it royal canin(giant breed) atleast for 8 months along with vitamins as prescribed by your doctor. It's expensive and if you can afford it feed it even after 8 months. I have stopped feeding royal canin after 10 months and from then its 2 eggs a day along with chicken. Hope this helps.

I would think the diet comes down to preference - sometimes those preferences could be the diet of the household, i.e the family, it can also be brand loyalty or what you've been asked to use. Of course there are a lot of other factors.

I've said earlier all our dogs are on Royal Canine as puppies and then slowly get weened onto the diet of the others. Jack Sparrow has said 8mths for his dogs, which is about right.

Personally and this is not a professional opinion, i think the type of food you give the dogs depends on their lifestyle too. Our dogs are at the farm and they are running about all day - playing with each other, the horses, people.. etc and so they are very active. Plus the dogs are pets, not show dogs (though they have participated in the past) and the beef mince, plus roti and milk is what suites them most. The idea i would think is try both, Royal Canine and home made food, see what the dog is happiest with, judge the condition of the dog with both and decide.

JackSparrow: Regarding the seperation both we and the present owner insisted that the pup be kept with the mother for a minium 8 weeks.On the 28th he'll be 4 weeks and we are going to check him out.
We are not into shows etc. but now we'd like to participate a bit maybe.Basically it was about having the best available pup nearby and this one fits perfectly.The Dam is the daughter of a former Champion italian import named Aron.
and the Sire is a International and indian champion Brooklyn.s Berega Turi.
Both of them are really beautiful to look at.Really really beautiful.

Also initially when i bring the pup home when he is 8 weeks old which particular royal canin product should i feed him.You've stated Giant breed.So is that a adult dog food or is it the puppy food in that grade.

Samir: thanks for the input.So basically i have now infered that this royal canin is not a food which can cause any problems to our pup.So this is the way i'll go with the pup.



Another small Query.
We're planning to get another pup in about 8-10 months time when this one is grown up so that we can then take care of the other pup.
That one will again be a male.We're contemplating a Labrador Retriever or a pitbull or maybe another rotweiller.
So how do the male dogs get along?
Any kind of fights they get into for setting the pecking order?
also what other breeds of males can i get which won't result in these two fighting?



Edit:Also we have decided against docking of the tail as it is really a very inhuman thing to do in our opinion.We were earlier told by some people that its a medical reason and the dog dies or does not grow fully if the tail is not docked which is totally false.It is just that we humans try to make things as we please and we have taken it to the extreme with challenging nature by doing things like docking these silent loving dogs' tails.
