re: Earthquakes hits Nepal - 25th April, 2015 & 12th May, 2015

Was at school when the earthquake took place. Everything started shaking vigorously while we rushed downstairs to the field. Must say, this was a THRILLING experience. This is the first time that I have felt an earthquake this prominently.

Nepal suffered hugely. Have a look at news channels and Google and you will come to know. India has agreed to help Nepal, as the news suggest. Not sure about this.

Take care people and wish the people who were hurt a speedy recovery.

Neel

Well, running down 9 floors twice carrying my daughter and helping not so well parents was not fun.

There have been 500+ deaths in Nepal and some in India too. Wish all the injured a speedy recovery !

I have a friend who is on his way to scale the Mt.Everest with a group of mountaineers. The news is that due to the earthquake there have been avalanches near the Base Camp area and I am not able to connect with him at all. Trying to get in touch with him through multiple sources now. I hope he is safe and sound along with the other mountaineers who are there at EBC.

Felt the tremors here at my office in Ranchi too. In fact, I was over the phone speaking to my wife and it was she who brought it to my notice. I suggested she gets under some doorway which has solid beams. After the tremors were over, all went down through the stairs.

Just for some information, I would suggest people get under beds, strong tables or at least cover their head by their arms so avoid injury from falling fixtures or concrete pieces. Leave the building when shocks are over. Never use elevators during earthquakes. Do not stand near glass panes as they shatter easily during tremors; much easily than concrete. And please please, do not spread rumors. Nobody can predict earthquakes and I heard people mentioning that one such shock is expected by 2.45 PM. Please stop spreading rumors which add to panic.

Read about the Avalanche. Also read that the Indian group is safe. However, I am concerned. Please let us know when you connect to your friend.

That was a shocking experience! Everything in my apartment was shaking!

I stay on the 23rd floor, don't know if it was the building swaying or the tremors or both, but was scary.

Rushed down through the stairs to the ground floor! By the time me and dad reached the assembly area, it was all over.

Prayers for all struck by the earthquake.

I stay at Muzaffarpur which is about 176KMS as the crow flies from Kathmandu in South direction. The first tremors(7.9) were felt at about 11:44am when I was at my workplace which is on ground floor. The tremors were severe and it was difficult to stand straight and keep balance. Then I came back home for going to clinic and thats when the 2nd one came (6.6). Since it had been raining, it was difficult to stay outside but couldn't help it. Next 2 snaps are screenshots from USGS site. The last tremors felt by us were at 6:15pm, although a minor one.

There have been reports of damages from my city also but that can be confirmed tomorrow morning only. Rumors are going on regarding more aftershocks with reports claiming to be from government.
We are on alert with emergency backup plan.

A tweet by someone in Norway mentioned the surface waves reaching there 45 minutes after first one.

Will update tomorrow with more news.

A huge round of applause for our government, the Armed forces and the NDRF. We are seeing real time action and ground work going on. Last heard, a C-130J is already reaching Delhi with 55 people evacuated from Nepal and another 250 will be brought back in night.

One of his well-wisher was able to connect with him. Thankfully he and his team are all safe. However the call lasted only for some 10-15 seconds, so could not get much details. His phone is again out of reach now.

I will update about the situation once I get to know some more details.
