i wanna differ..

My 2 cents.

While most of us are against the banning of TV content, i feel there must be some sort of regulatory mechanism which does some sort of content screening or lays some basic guidelines.

a)It becomes a more complex issue as to how the regulatory board would function with the other regulatory boards like the film censor board for ex doing a commendable job( sarcastic!)

b) One of the reasons for me to have this opinion is that these cable operators have their own channels and screen x-rated movies at regular hours( not all of them but i have seen!).

c)There are lot of other religous channels(all religions!) which preaches things which at times you feel the need to have some sort of control on the content shown.

d) Some of the voilence shown by the media channels at times are not appropriate for children.

Ours is a strange land where we have to live with a lot of idosyncrasies of our political/social setup.

You fret or dont fret, things will go on in this great country.

Just one question, though. If children from UK, US and all the other so-called developed countries can watch far worse programs, what's the harm here? Are we so incompetent to control our young ones...? Now what signal does THAT message send across..?

This seems to be a security measure. But as per the notification, the cafes must keep a record of the websites visited for at least 6 months. So any kids using the cafes to view pornography can in principle be caught up to 6 months later. It is only a small step away from cyber-censorship -- if the Shiv Sena makes a noise, it will be enforced. I do recollect some such SS initiative in Pune some time back, but don't know what happened to it.

rks the cyber cafe owners have to see that none of the customers are watching porn websites its his responsibility and yes the customer maybe caught 6 months afterwards but that is only if the cops ask for the recored from the isp for the details of the websites visited from that cafe.

Infact am just back from the police station, all the cyber cafe owners were called to the police station with their registers and the registers were checked and stamped by the officer. You can now expect surprise checks from the cops anytime so do you think any cyber cafe owner will allow such thing to happen and get into trouble.Atleast at my place we were strict about that and saw to it that no porn sites were opened by any customers.

one thing is for sure either the goverment is waking up and taking all the wrong steps as far as these things are concerned that is cracking down on the satellite channels regarding A movies. There are other ways to do it rather then banning all of them.

Cheers Ed..
