Re: The Scale Model Thread

Jaguar XJ 220, Maisto: Last but not the least, added a 1:12 scale model of the Jaguar XJ220, one of my poster cars from the 90s. The model has a good amount of heft to it and weighs around 2kgs. Fantastic paint quality and attention to details, such as cloth seat belt, gauge clusters and radiator setup. Engine bay is very well detailed as well and the tires are of rubber.

Finally got this 1:24 Scale BMW i5 M60 from AliExpress. Not the best in terms of finish and shape but its currently the only scale model available of the current model 5 Series (G60).

More of a toy with working lights, spring action and Vroom sound!

The engine depicted is strangely the 6 cylinder B58 petrol engine instead of the electric power plant.

Looks very nice barring a few imperfections on the interior trims.

Can you please post a picture of the underbody.

Sandesh, You have hit it out of the box again with this most cute and delightful acquisition. The finish & detailing are quite good.

So refreshing to see Indian cars making a comeback in the scale model world. Now days so little is made in our own country and we have to rely on some foreigners to even be able to buy indian scale models. When I was a child - 1960s, early 1970s we made everything of daily use in India. It wasn't always of top most quality but it was made here. As a consequence scale models of Indian cars, vans, trucks of that era could be bought in toy shops. And they were of acceptable quality - Ambassador, Padmini, Standard Herald, Mahindra Vans, Standard Vans, Ashok Leyland oil tankers, Tata 1210 trucks etc. I being a spoilt child had them all in my little collection.

I used to have Milton Toys Ambassadors and Fiats and Tata Lorries. Bought in India’s Hobby Centre in Calcutta in the 1970’s. And the Matchbox (Lesney Toys- Made in England) cars like the Planet Scout and Dodge Challenger and all those, from New Market Calcutta and AC Market Calcutta apart from those brought into India from England by various family members.

I bought the Green Military one. Ive not even opened it yet.
It has been endorsed as a good quality product by the famous auto-journalist Adil Jal Darukhanawala.

Re: The Scale Model Thread

Few additions this month:

1:64 Aston Martin, James Bond edition from MiniGT. Haven't uncarded the piece as the card itself is a collectable. This piece is a very detailed model with Gun extensions from front and rear bumper, tyre splitter coming out of rear wheel, and a bullet shield for the rear windshield.
The Scale Model Thread-img_20250312_094328.jpg

Also bought these 5 piece gift pack from majorette.
The Brabus Mercedes 889, Nissan GT R nismo, and the Mercedes AMG GTR in the black edition pack are super amazing ones.
The Scale Model Thread-img_20250312_094350.jpg

From the youngster 90's gift pack the Black Mercedes is the one which is super amazing and apart from it the white Toyota is also a good one.

Yes, Sir. I have seen some of the those old toys/models in mint condition built by brands like Milton Toys, Calcutta. They looked quite good for what they represented. Today those are being sold on Foreign websites at prices that are higher than actual scale models.

For e.g this one went for 180 British Pounds
The Scale Model Thread-miltonambulance2.jpg

I wish they had not shut down. Today they may have been one of the world's top toy/scale model manufacturers.

From ScaleArts.in. Scale Arts teamed up with IXO under their sub-brand "Vahanam" to make the Ambassador Mk.1 & Mk.2 first and now Gypsy MG410W in Soft Top & Hard Top Variants.

Thank you Shankar. Great to hear someone recalls these names. In the 1970s we may have had fewer shops but they were well chosen and very affordable. On the few occasions my father's warship docked at Calcutta we kids were sure to get a surprise from India Hobby - many of these were scientific toys or DIY kits.

A surviving Milton Toy example with the sticker on! Bought by a doting mother in 1970. The price of Rs 7.50 is like Rs 330/- today or so.

I'll take some credit for having preserved it for 55 years despite n number of transfers and house changes.
