Usually in office between 9am - 6pm. Am online in the morning at arnd 6:00am for 60-90 mins to catch up on emails. and back online in the evening after 8pm ...

Wonder what percentage of time at work is truly spent on official work. In my case, some time is spent over coffee-breaks ( 2 per day ), lunch, surfing...
A poor time manager!

If you are spending more than 8 hours in office, you are
1. Doing charity(unless its your own company) since IT people dont get overtime
2. Cheating with your own life,

I have also noticed that earlier in my bachlerhood days I used to spend even 12 hours at office on many days. But after good planning now I can finish more amount of work in half the time.

In IT industry most of them are young bachelors staying in rented house near the office itself. They dont have anything to do, if they leave early to their residence. In contrast, they get free browsing, Air conditioned hall, free coffee & tea, listening to music in parallel to writing codes. Company gives such a facilities to pull more bachelors working for long hours. They know effectiveness of job is cut to half after working hours, but definitely worth than the amount incurred in creating/maintaining facilities after working hrs.

On the other hand also seen few employees who are passionate about their jobs where they dont have account on how many hrs they work. Something like positive stress, which they enjoy very much.

wonder how much of this time would be on Team-BHP.com!

GTO & Tanveer have said it well.

Have done my bits of 24+ hrs, longest being 66 hrs in a 72 hrs stretch. Doesn't really help to slog off like that. Work will go on, even without us slogging out like that. And the person slogging out isnt, most times, the one to gain out of that. Best to focus on work only during the 8 hrs of office time ... there's so much in life outside office.

Average of 10 hours a day. Strictly no work on weekends (Sat & Sun). But after 10 years in IT, hate all of those 10 hours of work so much , that I want to change professions

I'm into publishing & advertising (2 organizations). Office is next to home. And I have a room where I can sleep, change etc behind my office room. It is also a mini gym, wardrobe etc etc. So I'm in office 24 hours. Except that out of the 24 hours, I sleep for 6 hours, browse the internet for 4 hours (approx., in various sessions), and food, bathroom etc. take 2 hours. I watch a movie daily so that's another 2 hours off. I go out on sundays and weekends. This sounds funny, but it suits me just fine. Business with lots of pleasure. And you probably noticed that all this leaves only about 10 hours for pure work. And I thought I work hard... I'm not married, so I guess I can sustain this only till then. I'll probably need to give up the browsing time after that... (shudder!)
