Absolutely shocking news.
May he rest in peace.
Last post on his blog. I am at a loss for words.

I was with him and the BCM touring group in 2010 on Ladakh trip. Have been interacting with him on and off since then! He was absolutely in love with Ladakh. Genuinely nice guy...so many made their maiden Ladakh trip based on the posts and interactions on BCM touring.
He actually considered himself unfit and had since become so serious about his health. Sad and very shocked to hear about this news! :(
Extremely shocked to learn this. I have been an active member at bcmtouring as well and had interacted with him a couple of times. He was such a humble and a nice guy. I am speechless at this moment. Rest in peace bro.
Terrible news. He was obsessed with Ladakh. Ran BCMT with a lot of personal passion. Devastating. I wonder how and where it happened. May his family find the strength to face this.
Shocking news! It was only yesterday, while I was discussing with my wife about YS and BCMT that how passionate this guy has been for his love towards travel and nature. He would go in detail for everything right from cameras, bikes, accomodation, locals, food, nature etc.
May his soul rest in peace!
Rest in peace champ. He died doing what he loved and was known for.

I used to have his company at BCMT Meets. Am proud to have a photograph of me, with his digital signature.
Nature has taken away someone who loved Nature the most.

He left us so soon, a true hill lover and a passionate soul. His imperative inputs on travelling to Himalayas have helped many of us, see you again !!

HAPE - High Altitude Pulmonary Edema.
AMS is not fatal but if left untreated it can lead to HAPE or HACE which are known to be fatal.
HAPE & HACE are basically untreated cases of AMS and can hit just about anybody. Physical fitness, gender or age seldom has much influence over it.
There was another 25 yr old who lost his life to HAPE/HACE the same day Yogesh left us.
I remember carrying 4 disposable oxygen cylinders with me and when my wife fell sick due to AMS we ended up emptying 4 of those cans in 10 mins. I only lightly pressed the nozzle so as to let minimum possible oxygen out of the can which is why they lasted 10 mins.
This was possible only because the hotel owner turned out to be a medical attendant for a hospital near Sakti and assured me that if my wife doesn't get better in the next 5 mins he'd take us to the hospital which was 8 kms away. He was the one who guided me on how to use those cans best and later told me to never rely on them, ever.
Those small portable cylinders are a gimmick and just don't work the way people think they would.
Now a 300 ltr oxygen cylinder is part of my mountain kit because having experienced AMS first hand, I can tell you that it can turn into HAPE/HACE if left untreated.
Indeed a terrible and unexpected news.
