Yes I also thought same from my experience while growing up in Bhuj.

Source might be IAF Aircraft, and IAF would never share such details in public due to security reasons.

Re: Loud boom noise in Bangalore

I doubt it is a sonic boom, ideally shouldnt we hear it slowly increase and then subside.

The sound i heard was like an explosion for 2 seconds and then nothing (i thought it was a transformer blast)

It has been heard from Devanahalli to Hosur to Kolar.
I wonder if a sonic boom can rattle 100 km radius. Even the strongest of Thunder storms won't reach such distances.

Re: Loud boom noise in Bangalore

Initially I thought it was some blast site nearby for some mining. Back in Jharkhand, this was commonplace where we had TATA steel mining belt. But looking at the reach of the sound, all parts of Bangalore ( from EC to Whitefield to Hebbal) looks like something else.

If it was a sonic boom I hope it stays classified and we never get to know which aircraft achieved it. As it is, enough information is being made public anyways.

Btw social media ( twitter, meme factories etc) got new material to keep themselves busy for sometime to come

Re: Loud boom noise in Bangalore

There are a lot of aircraft doing tests from the Aircraft systems and testing estab. Maybe it was a sonic boom from one of those or multiple ones.

I too heard.

May be off topic, but just curious.
The sound was heard even in hosur, approximately 40 kms from Bangalore! O doubt it's a sonic boom. The sound was like a loud blast, rattled the buildings and glasses. Shocks were present for close to 5 seconds. May be UFO or cloud burst?

Yes I've heard it too. Windows were shattered and I felt as if a huge rock was dropped on my house terrace. No conclusive news yet on the cause of it. The sound was more like the sonic boom that's heard in the you tube video shared earlier in one of the posts here.

Fingers crossed !

Re: Loud boom noise in Bangalore

IMHO there is something sinister going on that has escaped the attention of the masses. Delhi has experienced 4 earthquakes of low intensity in the last couple of months. Here comes the news from Bangalore which is totally unprecedented.

If one dives deeper into this, you will find out that it is not exactly a black swan event. Such noises and frequent earthquakes are perhaps a sign that the deep state is at work building an underground city for a possible Nuclear War with our neighbours. I'm being dogmatic or prophetic. Only time will tell.

Re: Loud boom noise in Bangalore

How many BHPians does it take to identify a sound source?

I heard it too and presumed it was a transformer blast in the neighborhood! But with so many people reporting the sound from as far apart as 100kms, wonder what it was - must have been fairly high up in the atmosphere for it to travel such large distances.

A sonic boom seems to be a likely explanation, but it had no trailing sound to it - just a crisp sound similar to a transformer blast.

With China making some inroads into the Indian airspace, I hope it's nothing associated with them!

Re: Loud boom noise in Bangalore

I see online articles stating that HAL has clarified that the sound was that of a Sukhoi taking off.

This is one plausible explanation that I found on Twitter.

Re: Loud boom noise in Bangalore

A mysterious "boom" heard in large parts of Bengaluru this afternoon that left residents of the city and social media users puzzled later turned out to be the sonic boom of a test aircraft.

"It was a routine IAF Test Flight involving a supersonic profile which took off from Bluru Airport and flew in the allotted airspace well outside City limits. The aircraft was of Aircraft Systems and Testing Establishment (ASTE)," the Defence Ministry tweeted. "…The sonic boom was probably heard while the aircraft was decelerating from supersonic to subsonic speed between 36,000 and 40000 feet altitude," it said.

Now we got to know that it's actually due to a sonic blast, any idea on what's the radius of the such sonic blasts sound can be heard? It was heard from all of Bangalore and Hosur! That must be around 80kms radius!! I am stunned by the radius of the sound that was heard and the vibration and shocks!

65-80kms.

There's an official tweet about the same: https://twitter.com/Prodef_blr/statu...309899777?s=20
