I think that by the time there are enough doses of the vaccine to go around for people like us (non-front line healthcare workers, not elderly or particularly at risk of a higher fatality rate from covid), there will be enough data to make an informed decision.

Re: The Covid-19 Vaccine Thread

Tens of thousands skip India's vaccine drive launch

Quote:
In the first three days of the drive, which started Saturday, the government said 381,305 vaccinations were carried out.
In the capital New Delhi, only 53% of people came forward for jabs, according to a health official.
Quote:
The Hindu newspaper reported that in the southern state of Tamil Nadu, the turnout was only 16%.
At a community health centre in Rohtak district in the northern state of Haryana, only 29 out of 100 people expected showed up, a doctor there told AFP.
Quote:
The government confirmed late Monday that two post-vaccination deaths have been reported.
One was a 52-year-old man who the health ministry said died Saturday in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh from "cardiopulmonary disease" and not the jab.
A post-mortem was being conducted on a 43-year-old man in Karnataka state who suffered a heart attack.
The government said that over the first three days of vaccinations 580 people had reported adverse symptoms.

Re: The Covid-19 Vaccine Thread

My 79-year old mom who's a surgeon at a hospital got her first shot of the vaccine today. She had some initial misgivings a few weeks ago about getting it, but I think the doctors as a whole have decided that it's important they show the way.

Ultimately, I guess for people involved with interacting with several patients during the course of treatment, (especially the elderly- docs and patients) the risk of not taking the vaccine and being at continued risk of contracting covid outweighs the risk of taking a new vaccine.

Re: The Covid-19 Vaccine Thread

Probably this? And the fact that the government has explicitly handed over its citizens to vaccine manufacturers to knowingly/unknowingly (but with no responsibility) serve as human guinea pigs for the latest phase 3 trials conducted so far?

Re: The Covid-19 Vaccine Thread

Got my first shot of CovidShield today at Nair Hospital in Mumbai today.

Took a prophylactic tab of Paracetamol after the shot.

Was kept under observation for 30 minutes at the hospital as per protocol and was a allowed to leave then.

Been 4 hours now - no side effects yet. No headache, fever or body ache. Soreness at injection site (Left arm) was for an hour only.

Update:
Little discomfort in arm last night solved by a Dolo 650.

Nothing this morning.

Wife took it yesterday; she’s got arm pain. A bit of malaise but she accounting that for lack of sleep.
She’ll catch up on sleep and see if it helps.
We are both below 45years of age with no co-morbidity.

I am asthmatic and suffer from chronic gastritis.
Is it advisable to take the vaccine when my time comes?

Re: The Covid-19 Vaccine Thread

My sister-in-law, who is a healthcare worker, has got herself vaccinated (Astra-SII) yesterday. She is doing fine and no side effects since then.

Today she got a message to show up for the second dose on 26th Feb at the same vaccination center.

Yes, do take the vaccine without any worry. Your co-morbidities are not contraindications for Covid-19 vaccine.

Re: The Covid-19 Vaccine Thread

I was diagnosed with Covid-19 in August 2020. I tested for antibodies and it was not reactive. That means the antibodies disappeared after 5 months.

Not sure how long the immunity would last after vaccination. I got Covishield yesterday. I didn't face any adverse effects yet, most of my friends have got fever and myalgia which is expected.

Re: The Covid-19 Vaccine Thread

Update:

Wife's down with body ache and severe pain in the arm - can't raise her hand and feeling "feverish" without rise in notable temperature.

On another note:

Good a good feedback call from the BMC today asking to give my feedback via IVR on the following:

1. Social distancing at centre
2. wait time
3. were you told which vaccine you were given
4. were you explained pros and cons
5. were you told post vaccine precautions to take
6. how was the staff behaving
7. was I told to wait for 30 min after the shot
8. how was the waiting facility
9. how was the overall vaccine experience

All I had to dial was 1 for good or 2 for bad.

Good initiative.

Re: The Covid-19 Vaccine Thread

Got administered with the first dose of Covishield vaccine this afternoon. No side effects yet, only slight pain over the injection site, like after a dose of TT. Will update if the status changes in the next few hours.

Re: The Covid-19 Vaccine Thread

Would like to hear for anybody who got a Covaxin shot. So far we have testimonies about Covishield only.
