Let me begin with a disclaimer: I enjoy driving, and I enjoy gathering knowledge / talking about automobiles. I appreciate cars which are engaging to drive, and detest the ones that are big-screen gadgets with an engine thrown in. Cars, for me, are a tool to enjoy a drive and honestly, I am definitely not a type of person who gets emotionally attached to cars.

Now comes the twist. A kindergarten assignment on 'My Car' where the car is supposed to have a name. Heck, a decade of married life and I don't even have a cheesy name for my wife, forget naming a car. But if the occasion has arisen, why not do it for good? I go to google looking for car names - and see some really overwhelming lists. Nothing that I could connect with. And heavens forbid if somebody asks me why I named my car whatever I choose.

BHP-ians, I see many of you naming your cars pretty appropriately, with many owners going lengths to provide elaborate narratives on why they named their car the way they named it. So appealing the creative minds here: What would you name a Dark Grey S-Scross, if it's primary characteristics (from my perspective) are handling, comfort and dexterity?

Thanks in advance for the responses!!

Well, I guess you could call it

Grey matter™️lol:

Hope he doesn't consider "Grey area"

You could even consider Grey Hound or the Grey wolf. And if you want to lose the color in the name, can use Husky!

Naming your car based on "Grey S-Sross" (a "descriptive name") is one approach, as the above posts suggest.

The other approach is to name it based on some emotions it evokes in you. Since you asked how others name their cars, let me share my experience.

Just like you, even I never named my cars. Until one 2000km long solo drive in my car, which evoked so many emotions that a name just came out naturally - Dusty!

Here is my narration of how I named my car Dusty in that travelogue:

I know that it is very common on this forum that people give names to their cars. However, somehow, I have never given a name to any of my cars. But I think the time has come. This drive brought back all the wonderful memories I had with this car over last six years, and with all that, I can't refer to her just as "my car" anymore. So let's call her "Dusty"! Dusty, after my favorite character, Dusty Crophopper from the movie "Planes", as well as because she was actually covered in dust most of the times through this drive.

Based on title, I suggest you call your car "Saar". It would be quite hilarious to read any updates you put up later on. lol:

"Saar is regularly engaged in the school run."
"Saar had his service checkup done today."

Ok no maybe that might be a disservice to your car. Joking aside, the name should ideally be something that is memorable and sentimental to you alone since it is your car.

This is an additional line to avoid an infraction.

Grey Scross huh...
Don't go for a Shortform, that would be GROSS rl:

This hunt is going be fun lol:
Jokes aside, why not try

SMOKEY
BLAZER
GRINDER
GREYSTER
GREYWIND
GREASY
GRANITE
STORMY
MISTY
DUSKY
STARSHIP
SHADOW
DEXTER
WOLFY

Not really a name but I have been calling the S-Cross as our Transformer, a white one to be precise.

Why ? because we have a few threads where it wasn't even in consideration but ended up being booked once people took a TD. So I am claiming that it has been possessing buyers and even Maruti are surprised at the sales of its AT, a testament to its superpowers :)

This thread is fun! Didn't expect it to be!! rl:

Naah, none of these are his character. He is a diesel sipper for sure, but he doesn't smoke, nor makes grinding noises! Neither is he blazing fast. I'd probably go with Wolfy once I have him Wolf'd!

Your reply made me choke on my tea, I was laughing so hard!!!!

Some interesting names I came across on this forum:

(Blau Rakete
ShadowFax

KungFu Panda
Strider
BlueJay

You know what goes well with Grey? GandalfTheGrey :D A great character from LOTR series, for those uninitiated.

Cheers!

A couple of simple and somewhat apparent ones, which focus on the ease with which it plays the different roles you mentioned :

- SuperCross : should've been called this IMO
- PoiseMaster : to the handling and comfort
- Carbonite : just sounded cool
- GreySurfer : to the color and versatility
- Nimbus : the grey rain cloud

All of these sound cool and apt. If you want to sound wicked, ShadowMonster, DarkBeast would be fun

Since it is a kindergarten assignment, i am thinking of Grey Casper or CasperGrey.
i prefer the second one as it is sounds phonetically better to me :)

I almost settled for Carbonite. Felt like a good name.

Then, I heard the name "Iruka" - Japanese for Dolphin. A playful humble, assuring, and calm creature. It's endearing and does not scare anyone. And what's more, a Dolphin is Grey! That's exactly what my car is, saar! It's not blazing fast, nor is it a mighty beast. It's just a comfortable, humble, and playful little machine. And it's Japanese! So that sorts my dilemma and kiddo's assignment!

Iruka signing off...

Nice Iruka relates better.
Now I shall offer the names to MSIL if they promise to put in a better AT.
For some reason every time I look at the front of the S-Cross the word which comes to my mind is Godzilla, absolutely no idea why. I guess just another mystery of our Transformer :)

Happy Motoring Iruka :thumbs up
