Re: Show us your IRVM and what you hang on it

I actually have a clip-on mirror that gives me a better view.

I hate anything obstructing my vision - I haven't figured out how to turn those hanging beads/bird/whatever invisible in my wife's car, I just wrap them around the mirror so they don't swing annoyingly in my field of vision.

Re: Show us your IRVM and what you hang on it

In my cars there is always a miniature Rosary of the apt size and does not dangle about or obstruct the view. Besides that there is nothing else, be it on the IRVM or dashboard.

I guess these days one thing that you can find common on most car IRVMs is this !

Re: Show us your IRVM and what you hang on it

The poll is getting interesting. For those who weren't aware, please note that you can tick multiple options.

In summary, as of now, 49 votes say they have no IRVM trinkets, while 10 say they do. OTOH, 100% of voters say that any attachment on the IRVM is a distraction while driving.

If it is such a distraction, I wonder why nearly half of cars in general, and most cabs and commercial vehicles, have something or the other attached to the IRVM.

Re: Show us your IRVM and what you hang on it

My Nando's IVRM does not have anything hanging to it. Though I do have a dashcam right behind with the wiring neatly routed through the roof. There is a Fastag as well stuck in the windshield. I did have a air freshener hanging from.tje IVRM for a few days until it lost all its fragrance.

In my Ecosport, I have the Ford's next service reminder triangle hanging around since the first servicing. There is also a dashcam, again with the wiring neatly routed through the roof along with a Fastag.

Because it is exactly that sample which unfortunately cannot be part of this poll and hence what we see here are responses from members who are aware that such items around the IRVM are nothing less than distractions.

And it is not just things around IRVM for that matter. There are a lot of such vehicle owners who have accessories inside and outside their cars and unaware of the shortcomings and dangers that lurk around by having them on their cars including but not limited those with bull bars and crash-guards.

It depends on how involved people are during driving. For me, absolutely no distractions and I want to concentrate on the surroundings without something else catching my attention. For the same reason, I also prefer to not use any phone holders which appear in my primary field of view, that is the windshield. The instrument cluster, head unit etc is like a secondary viewing area and thats the area I voluntarily view when I feel is appropriate. The issue is when there is something in your primary field of view, it tends to catch your attention all the time especially if it tends to move around, or a phone with notifications popping up.

There was one time when my mother went shopping to a handicrafts store and came back with a small sized elephant cut out of thin wood that she hung on the mirror. I think it lasted for a few days and 2-3 drives before I removed it.

Like I mentioned earlier it varies from person to person, and also depends on how much involved you are in driving and the style of driving. While the elephant was a distraction for my dad as well, for me even a slightly spotty windshield is a no no whereas my dad can live with it until it gets too much or it actually hampers vision.

Re: Show us your IRVM and what you hang on it

Against the popular vote here. Me being the big Ferrari fan that I am, a friend gifted me this teddy dressed in Ferrari kit which he bought from the Ferrari museum in Italy and this little fellow hangs from my mirror.

He was there in the Figo and now in the Ecosport and will most likely continue to occupy this spot! Over the years with all the time under the sun his clothes have now faded

I have never found this distracting and hence am comfortable with him being there.

Reason why I always wonder how a 3rd passenger in the front row of that Mahindra KUV100 or Datsun Go (at least thinking of a recent modern day car) manages to sit throughout that journey without distracting the driver. If the owners of the same cars have an idol hanging on the IRVM, that's heights of being ignorant of any distractions and adaption to limits.

Re: Show us your IRVM and what you hang on it

I purchased two small lockets of Maha Kaali and hung them on both A-Star and Nano's IRVM. God figurines lose their double-tape and fall around in footwell which I find disrespectful.

Like many other people I have seen here in Roorkee and Haridwar, my nano also has a mask hanging to IRVM, since I am the only one using it, the car that is, not mask!

I too have nothing hanging from my IRVM.
As many others have mentioned on this thread, I too find them distracting.
At the bottom of my windshield though, I have my Garmin GPS navigator attached using the suction mount that came with the device.
But, no moving objects on my IRVM.

Re: Show us your IRVM and what you hang on it

We have the chunni from the pooja that was done when we took delivery of the car tucked away behind the IRVM. Its been put in such a way that its barely visible from inside cabin.

Try spotting it in the picture.

Nothing hanging from the IRVM.

I don't like these things and feel these distract / annoy us while driving to a small extent. There are a lot of people who prefer to have these and are not at all annoyed by it

I'm probably going against to the popular opinion here. The toy on the dashboard has been pulled out by my kid and is long gone now. The air freshener has been since moved to the cup holder but the soft toy on the IRVM remains. I bought it as a compliment to what I named my car and it stayed there because my kid loves to see it dance from the back seat when we are on the go. Honestly, when I drive, I don't even register it's there so I guess it's zero distraction. I have not planned on adding anything on the dashboard for now, except for a dashcam which I plan to install behind the IRVM similar to the fastag, so that it won't be seen from the cabin.

Re: Show us your IRVM and what you hang on it

I have a New York Yankees soft ball key chain dangling from my IRVM. Its been there since day-one. Not much of a distraction to me, probably because I have become used to it being there.
