Re: My Home Gym: A guide for anyone wanting to set up a gym at home!

Got this used bench at a very mouth watering price, the very first piece of serious equipment in my home gym setup.

The area is partial covered space on my flat's terrace.

Prior to this I have two barbells, two dumbell rods, around 20kg rubberised weight, around 30-35 kg metal plates, stepper, hurdles, battle rope for functional cardio. Total investment as of today is around 6-7 k.

Next in line is the removal of random articles hanged on walls by my dad, rubber mats to drop the weight after drop sets, maybe a mirror eventually to ensure the form is correct and condition check.

Original 40 Density foam is hard. There is a chance of rebound of weights occurring. Also layering a flat sheet of foam to an embossed ready made mat would be an issue, as it wouldn’t paste effectively. Also the grip of shoes on the foam would be very high and risky IMO.
Hence I advice against this option.

This setup would not be for you to stand on, but simply at the 2 ends where you would drop the plates. Rebound of heavy weights is unlikely on a such a setup.

Re: My Home Gym: A guide for anyone wanting to set up a gym at home!

I have worked with 28/32/40/50 density foam products, and rebound is unavoidable, this makes it risky. There is a product called EVA sheet, which (IMO) is more suitable, as rebound is negligible, offers very good grip if layered with rubber (like you mentioned in your post).

Anyone here using the Decathlon pull-up bar? This is a newer lockable model which apparently prevents the bar from unlocking if you twist it the other way round.

Re: My Home Gym: A guide for anyone wanting to set up a gym at home!

Hi Guys,

I am looking for exercise bike for me(50+) and my son(17+, he can't go out for cycling anymore due to covid restriction) and both of us are relatively lazy bums.

The goal is to
1. Check the weight in control (our BMIs are around 24)
2. Get some cardiovascular exercise

Requirements are
1. Should be overall safe and specially for knees
2. Decent quality, easy to fit and maintain
3. Budget < 30K

I am new to this, any recommendation for good exercise would be appreciated, preferably option to buy online.

Although I couldn't get any reviews, I went ahead and got one. Here is my feedback after one month of use.

The bar feels solid and the installation takes just a couple of minutes if one doesn't use screws. The bar is rated for 120 Kg when bolted onto the walls with screws and 100 Kg when mounted without the screws (just friction). Since I only weigh a tad below 70, I decided to go without the screws. After one month of daily use, the bar has not moved/slipped a bit, which is confidence-inspiring.

Hi all,

Any feedback on a rowing machine ? I am planning to get one as being WFH for almost 2 years now has had a severe impact on my physical health. I have heard good reviews about rowing machines as they provide well rounded exercise. I am looking for feedback if anybody here has used this machine.

something like this :; https://www.decathlon.in/p/8487893/g...rowing-machine

I recently got the same product a couple of weeks back and agree with your review. I have not used it much, but it seems stable without any screws. I weigh 85 kgs.

It is a bit tilted as I did not align it properly.

I find it a bit narrow for open grip pull ups. I wanted to buy the next model with more width, but the corridor is narrow for that.

Re: My Home Gym: A guide for anyone wanting to set up a gym at home!

I got the following items for working out at home because of the current Covid situation. It is very convenient to do some basic workout at home whenever possible.

5 feet olympic bar (good quality, value for money) - https://www.amazon.in/gp/product/B08...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Bumper plates set - 10 kg and 20 kg (very good quality, but expensive) - https://www.amazon.in/gp/product/B08...e?ie=UTF8&th=1

Dumbells - 10 kg and 5 kg set (decent quality) - https://www.amazon.in/gp/product/B07...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
https://www.amazon.in/gp/product/B08...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Resistance band (decent quality) - https://www.amazon.in/gp/product/B08...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Decathlon pullup bar (good quality) - https://www.decathlon.in/p/8588491/c...-up-bar-100-cm

I would like to get a bench and squat rack to make it a decent setup, but no separate room/ space available in apartment.

Re: My Home Gym: A guide for anyone wanting to set up a gym at home!

Hello BHPians -

I am planning to buy an airbike for myself. I have used similar bikes in the past and had liked the experience I have had with these units. The brand I have chosen is Powermax.

Does anybody have any experience with this brand and with the model in question. Please see the link for the model I am looking for.

Thank you

Re: My Home Gym: A guide for anyone wanting to set up a gym at home!

Finished setting up a home gym for two(Mr. & Mrs.) of us. We both arrived on the consensus to have a small setup at home so that we can stay fit. Since March2020 the workout routine has been derailed and the overall fitness & mobility has taken a toll. March2021 decided to join a gym and again same series of events(as was last year) hampered the plan and we are now again in lockdowns and at worst are planning for a 3rd wave. As i don't feel confident anymore to go out and join a commercial gym at least in near future and taking in consideration other reasons decided to invest some money in a home gym facility. As the home ministry was in pro-active support of this idea , taking the motivation from this thread i bit the bullet and finished setting up the home gym.

The price breakup of expenditure is as below -
1) Painting and preparation of the room - 1100/-
2) Rubber tiles (15mm) (120sft) - 10,318/- (with 700/- shipping charges, local dealers quoted 12k for 10mm tile)
3) Mirror (5mm, 2x(6ftx5ft)) - 9,500/- (due to lockdown and miss communication ended up paying more here could have easily saved 2k)
4) Gym equipment and weights - 82,797
Total - 1,03,715/-

I know i could have optimized on some money spent on gym equipment, but considering the lockdown and immediate need of some setup i didn't mind the extra expenditure.

Equipment and weights -
1) Decathalon rack 900 - 39999/- (as suggested on this forum tried for local dealers, one vendor from Punjab quoted 30k shipping extra, tried with local contacts too but of no help. Even the decathalon guy advised me to go for local manufacturer, but only if i have a contact with the manufacturer or someone whom i can trust to make sure the quality check. In the process the rack gone out of stock and have to wait a month to get the same, i utlised the time and did research but couldn't find anything)
2) Decathalon bench 900 - 11,999/- (this is no doubt over priced but i trusted the brand, the bench is very ergonomic(e.g height etc.), quality could have been better, could have saved 2-3k easily but this was essential at that time so gone for it)
3) Dumbbells (60kg) + plates(50kg) + 7ft & 5ft Olympic rod + yoga mat = 26,800/- (purchased (during lockdown)these minimum possible items to continue workouts at home during lockdown, have planned to get more weights once things get better at a more economical price)
4) Decathalon plyometric box = 3999/-

I am happy to finish up this DIY task (from painting to installing the rack900), and really thank the team-Bhp community where people share their DIY activities, it really helps and motivates.

Can someone recommend any reliable online store for a single stack gym? The link GTO gave seems to be quite expensive. Amazon seemed to have some decent options (or is that bad?) but ran out of stock before I could order.

Any inputs would be helpful
