God pity the Skoda and Scorpio owners. Looks like the driver dude swerved right to avoid the tanker coming from the opp' side.

Hmm, a maharastra registered skoda. The airbags did not deploy. Can think of two reasons.
* Engine was switched off... and the sensors were not working. If so makes me wonder whether thats really not something skoda and others should think about!

* The sensors are probably at the bumper level. Makes sense because they would have figured that any frontal collision will first be felt at the bumper level. However in this case the bumper is intact! Its the bonnet that has borne the brunt.

By the way the way those two cars are hanging from the edge it makes for a wierd scenario. Imagine the impact. Mostly people engage either the gear or the hand brakes or both. And yet those two vehicles were almost pushed off the edge.

Little Johny's question : Can we say those two cars are hanging out together?

The Scorpio seems to have withstood the impact pretty well from what I see.

Thank GOD, there was no people standing around the cars otherwise there could have been casualities.

Hmm... Scorpio with its flat wall like back only got a nudge (ok, make that a push) from behind. It did not have to host the bus on its lap. The damned bus decided to sit on the skoda's bonnet. No wonder the hood looks so crumpled.

I remember once a bus lost control and entered a bar in a shopping complex .. I think it was at/near the same spot.

Maybe because the engine is switched off & the parking break engaged & the central lock armed.

The bus would have been doing hardly 30-40Kmph, otherwise this could have been worse. That is one skoda that will go for sale very soon.

Ho ..there is defect then , i believe the Air Bags should be armed always irrespective of the locks and engine being ON or OFF and also whether the battery is dead or alive, the air bags should be standalone and be deployed on impact . what do you guys say ?

Actually, airbags do not deploy for all impacts. There was a similar issue raised when some owners conducted some "dharna" in front of Skoda office, I think in Delhi. The response from Skoda was like, "Airbags deploy based on the angle and force of impact, not always" That was laughing stuff for some days, but I did check up with some folks and it turned out to be true.
