You don't say. For a long time (early 2010s), when I hear 'Padma Awards', the scene that comes to my mind is when Pranchiyettan faints when he learns he didn't get a Padma award even after heavy donations/bribes and PR work. Not to say, many of the generic villains in malayalam movies of the late 2000s used to do stuff to get a Rajya Sabha seat or a Padma award.

In these times, it brings all of us great joy to see extraordinary Indians such as these being honoured for their service to society. Each of them has done more for our country than all the rotten people who fill our newspapers everyday.

People like this remind us that this still is a great country.

I do not want to make political commentary here, but some of those who have received Padmashree this year, definitely already should have received Bhushan or Vibhushan much earlier than some previous awardees who have simply waltzed their way through the glitz and glamour of commercial Indian cinema.
