Also finished the German TV show, Dark. My new favourite. The show is about people going missing in a small German town. There is whole lot more to the show. But don't want to reveal any spoilers. Fans of Twin Peaks and Stranger Things will really like the it. |
Oh yes. Dark is really wonderful. Was surprised with this one. Eagerly waiting for the next season.

My suggestion would be Boston Legal - it's a legal drama, but much more than that. A legendary pairing of James Spader and William Shatner.
I used to see almost everything that was TV, but this series is one of the few intelligent ones that I remember.

I'll recommend
PaatalLok; this is getting released on Prime in 3 days. Comes highly recommended from a friend who's been
on the dot for such recommendations (also he's the
co-screen writer so I guess :D ) I'm eagerly waiting for the same

Wrt to past series, there are way too many wrt to the selection set; but I'd say
Mindhunters (crime selection). Dark, broody and surprises one completely!

Guys, any suggestions for TV shows? I've always been more of a movies guy, but recently got hooked onto Narcos (and loved it). Have also enjoyed House of Cards & Mirzapur (these two were top class). Would love a streaming show on business, politics or crime. Had watched Breaking Bad, but didn't like it.
Sister recommends "Billions" and "Succession".
Thanks in advance! |
You might like Mad Men then, About ad agency running business from the 80's.
Crime you can try Blacklist or Money Heist (subtitles only)

If you like Crime / investigation, I can suggest Bosch on Prime. It is pretty real, I liked it for that.

Absolutely, worth a watch, though must say, villagers are not that goody goody anymore.
Will check on Mentalist :).

If Crime is what you are looking for, I have some suggestions. Police procedural shows written by Phds ( some of them at least) with strong leadership and excellent team work. Suggestions ordered at random:
1. Bones : A forensic anthropologist teams up with a FBI agent to solve murders. You will be surprised at what one can tell just by looking at the bones.
2. NCIS: All time favorite. A former marine Sniper leads a team to solve crimes related to US service personnel. He is held in high esteem by his men as well as his adversaries. His men think even Genghis Khan would think twice before messing with Gibbs (the main team leader).
3. Manifest: Left incomplete. A commercial airliner returns to its final destination - after a gap of 5 years. It went missing in that time and mystery stalks the passengers.

This was pretty good while it lasted. But the series was abandoned midway so no point investing time on it.

I would recommend these (just 1 season, so you don't have to be hooked for too long):
1. Chernobyl
2. Band of Brothers
Both are based on real incidents/characters.
The Trial (Netflix): Italian series on Netflix with English audio. It is a short series with only 8 episodes. The series revolves around the murder of a teenager and the trial of a wealthy woman accused of the crime. Pretty good, although I could guess the twist at the end (they made a bit too obvious with earlier scenes).

For a movie buff these Mini series are better
A
dd The Night Manager to the list - Total 6 episodes
I like these Mini Series because they get over soon and do not unecessarily drag on and on
Finished Paatal Lok on Amazon Prime
Review: 4/5
If you like Mirzapur and Sacred Games this show is for you.
A lot of mystery revolves around Hathoda Tyagi and Masterji.
Overall a nice show to binge.

It says, Season 1, hope it just doesn't leave you in the middle, with a plot twist or something or wanting to see a bit more.

It's a trend with these streaming services. If show is hit they will convert it into a full fledged series, otherwise just leave it as a limited series. Most producers leave it at a cliffhanger so public will demand and channel will likely renew it. I hate this trend of cliffhangers.
Paatal Lok : 5/5
Honestly this is a series of and by the secondary set of actors who do such an amazing job but are hardly given due credit.
Brilliant script, carried out by some amazing characters; and very compact (~25 mins). There is absolutely no unnecessary lengthening of the episodes or unrequited drama. The scenes are brutally direct when required so definitely not for general family watching.

Without giving any spoilers I'd say the ending could have ended in many ways. They did it quite well, kinda like inception. There could be a season 2, but then there couldn't :-) Make your own views!
Paatal Lok: 4/5.
Brilliant! Shows the prejudices we as a society harbours and how the system works. I would say this is more realistic and far better than Sacred games. The actors have done a tremendous job, especially the lead Jaideep Ahlawat. No twists or stranding the viewer at the end.
