Black Doves
OTT : Netflix
4/5

Yet another smashing British spy thriller. I think the Brits have got this so right that it's hard for any other country to copy this genre as good as these folks do.

Keira is a spy married to the Defense Secretary and how her illicit affair lands her in trouble and subsequent thirst for revenge forms the crux of the story.

Andrew Koji who was the main lead in Warrior was wasted as he has literally no role in this series. Sarah Lancashire who is my favorite (Happy Valley) was delightful as ever.

The folks who stand out is the main lead-Ben Winshaw and Keira and some of the dialogues between them is quintessential British and that humour is as always really enjoyable.

I finished 4/6 episodes and it's been a cracker of a show and I don't expect it to taper down for rest of the 2 episodes.

Yet another smashing British spy thriller.

Came here to post just this. Pretty well made, just a little slow for my liking. But that's generally the case with most British series, especially in this genre.

Series Name : Black Doves
Genre : Thriller/Spy
OTT : Netflix

My Rating : 4/5

I echo the comments made above. This is a well made British Thriller/Spy series and with some dark humor. I really liked the head of the Black Dove. She was really a cold and unemotional character :D.

Series: Madness
OTT: Netflix
Rating: 1.5 on 5

Terrible show. Far too stretched, awful storyline, weak script. I’m not sure why I sat through it - I guess the perils when you get to 30 - 40% of a series you feel inclined to see it through to the end.

Totally agree. Fortunately, I gave up after 2/3 episodes.

I suppose you are referring to Sarah Lancashire (Character Name is Reed in this series). She is fabulous and if you haven't seen this series. It's worth it.

Slow but, gripping.

Better Call Saul | Netflix | 4/5

I know this is an old one, but after watching the first season when it got released a few years back, I never got around to continue it.

Like old wine, this ages beautifully. The pace is just about right, not racy enough to lose your sleep binge-watching and not slow enough to make you lose interest. The characters, especially the main protagonists played by Bob Odenkirk and Rhea Seehorn, are superbly etched out by brief back stories and vignettes. So much so you are left uneasy with the choices and questionable actions of the two characters in the later seasons. The ending reminds one of yet another classic "The Americans", considered by many as one of the finest endings of a TV series.

Only grouse that I had was the usage of low or dim lighting through the series. For sure, it creates a certain grey/dark atmosphere which perhaps was the creators' intention, but you need to strain your eyes to see what is happening. But just as in "Breaking Bad", this is partly mitigated by the spectacular outdoor shots of New Mexico desert.

At an episode or two a day, this series keep you occupied for a couple of months without stressing your brains out on what to watch. Definitely, recommended.

ps - This can be watched standalone, except for the last four episodes of season 6 where there is a crossover with "Breaking Bad" universe. In case you have not watched "Breaking Bad", Wikipedia can help when you reach there.

I had to see it completely after investing my time :sadface. Especially in episodes 2 to 4/5, it just loses everything. At the end its a little watchable.

What an amazing thriller.

Thank you for this. I just finished yesterday. TBH I wouldn't say I liked the opening much and I thought I'm not sure but by the end of the second episode I was hooked. I liked it even better as I've visited Philly several times and could identify multiple locations - Reading terminal, Townhall, William Penn's statue etc, and of course New York locations.

I'd go on to watch Black Doves now.

I'd recommend Vigil to you if you haven't seen it. I recall watching it on a different app but now it seems available on Lionsgate play.

The Devil's Hour (Prime)

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt14379784/

"A woman who wakes up every night at exactly 3.33AM, in the middle of the so-called devil's hour between 3AM and 4AM."

Interesting premise and rated highly thought we'd give this a watch.

Had us dozing off halfway :(

Gave up on it.

Don't come home (Netflix, Thai)
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt31158589/

"A mother and her young daughter flee to their family's abandoned mansion but soon find themselves haunted by paranormal incidents that lead to the little girl's mysterious disappearance."

Many loopholes but overall a pretty decent watch. Starts off with a supernatural horror premise then deviates into pure sci-fi :D

Webseries Name : The Day of the Jackal
Genre : Thriller/Spy
OTT : Jio Cinema

My Rating : 4/5

This is a superb British Thriller/Spy series in my opinion. It appears that we might have a season 2. There are few plot holes here and there. The Jackal character is supposed to be a under the radar assassin but in this series the character deviates from it! Nevertheless would definitely recommend it for a watch.

Webseries - The Penguin
OTT - Jio

My rating - (personally am not rating it as overall)

Acting is a 5/5 as is cinematography / shots etc. The plot lost me or I lost it, too filmy for my taste (you may read as predictable, save for 2 or 3 occasions)

Black Doves on Netflix.

This is a slow burn; typical of most British series these days. Keira Knightley has done a wonderful job in portraying the duality of her role as a spy and the wife of a Minister.

The main grouse I had with the series however was the more-than-casual portrayal of the British Defence Secretary. The guy literally strolls around the city without a security detail or retinue and ambles along without people noticing; also his house does not have security for any kind of protection either. This is just stretching it a bit too much, considering that the post entails major public/media attention and is a crucial figure in the entire government apparatus in general.

Also, all characters are going around killing people in various neighbourhoods of London, yet no CCTV seems to capture any of it and they can go on living their lives with sheer normalcy.

The plot itself failed to excite me and the grand reveal at the end does not blow you away either.

Rating: 2.5/5

Wrapped up watching "After Life" on Netflix. Its setup in a British town, fictional town named Tambury. If there are any Ricky Gervais fans in the house, then this one is for you. A very simple story of a middle aged aging guy who loses his wife to cancer and then decides to be cruel to the outside world while being broken inside.

While the premise sounds heart breaking, its not really. It has humour with many characters thrown in and I loved the banter between characters. So full of life and pondering moments. With each episode around 30 mins and total 3 seasons with 6 episodes each, it was a breeze to watch.
