Re: Everything Pune : Queries related to living & settling in Pune

As a policy, I try to avoid peak traffic times and always follow traffic rules.

But if someone is intent on breaking them, I do my best to let them do it and try to cause no hindrance to it. My assumption here is that there is a good reason why they are in such a hurry. I will not be the person who pisses them off.

Also, when on a 2-wheeler, I try to ride 5-10 kmph faster than the rest of the traffic around me. Speed limit be damned. That is just the way I stay safe and ensure that nobody is creeping up on me from behind and startling me. The fact that my 2-wheelers have been at least above average in terms of power output for the past 14 yrs has helped. If anyone is trying to go faster still, they are putting in a lot of effort and need to be rewarded for it .

I have been in Pune for ~15 yrs but have been at the receiving end of road rage exactly once, in Feb 2023. That was an Innova Crysta driver who refused to get a move on and I was the person in a hurry honking from behind. The result being, the guy blocked 2 lanes on the road, got down from the car and walked to my window to talk to me about it.

My response was to not look the guy in the eye and refuse to lower my window or get out of the car. I just gestured that I need to go and he got the message.

Re: Everything Pune : Queries related to living & settling in Pune

Hi all, I'll be shifting to Pune around last week of May, to near Kalyani Nagar.

For now, I've picked a place using Zolo. I plan to stay there for a month while looking for other apartments. I also plan to buy a 2nd hand scooter or bike.

In that regard,
1. Are there trusted brokers that sell 2nd hand 2-wheelers?
2. What about rental ebikes? There are some in my place that cost as little as ₹2000/month. Are there any such providers in Pune? All I could find are Exa Ride and Shride, the latter of which doesn't have pricing on the website.
3. Since I'm a bachelor, what kind of place would you suggest near Kalyani Nagar I look at to stay? Don't need much, 1BHK or 2BHK at most, perhaps.
4. There is already a lot of discussion about Anudh and other places, but most are too far away from KN. Should I shift there for a better place to live and commute, or something nearby is a better option?
5. As an Eastern, anything else I should be aware of, with respect to climate for myself or culture to not offend local people?

Re: Everything Pune : Queries related to living & settling in Pune

Hey, you will definitely enjoy Pune especially the weather and the timing of move is great as that is the time when monsoon starts and Pune is amazing during monsoons. You would be able to explore places such as Lonavala, Mahabaleshwar etc. To answer your questions:
1. There are plenty of pre owned 2 wheeler stores with a plethora of options. Pune moves on 2 wheelers.
2. I am not sure of rental bikes.
3. Consider your budget before making a choice between 1bhk and 2bhk. Rents are high, especially near Kalyani Nagar.
4. Places close to KN are Viman Nagar and Koregaon Park. Aundh would be far and commute during monsoons would take time.
5. Nothing to be worried about, people are friendly and the police doesn’t bother even if you have an out of state vehicle.

I moved to Pune last year and have not faced any issues.

Aundh, Baner, Wakad are the popular places a lot of people stay at, on the other side of Pune. But that means, you'll have a commute of about an hour one-way to Kalyani Nagar.

Consider Kalyani Nagar, Viman Nagar, or even Kharadi - depending on your budget / living options you'd like. A lot of societies (esp. the big ones that house a lot of families) tend to not allow bachelors, so that may be a small hindrance. But there's plenty options so you shouldn't have an issue.

Re: Everything Pune : Queries related to living & settling in Pune

Hi Team, my son has to start his two month internship at Chakan beginning end of this month. Haven’t been able to find a place to stay. Zolo properties are quite a distance away. Pls suggest some short term rentals near Dehu road, Nigri or nearby. Thanks

Re: Everything Pune : Queries related to living & settling in Pune

Fellow BHPians, my daughter would be eligible for Junior KG next year and I am looking for good school options near Baner area. I have CBSE as preference. We have explored CBSE and ICSE and heard about Vidya Valley, Dhruv Global, CEM International, Kalmadi and Sanskriti Bhukum. Our preference is minimum travel for our daughter; having said that, 5-8 km could be inevitable which I understand.

I request people staying near Baner, Pashan, Sus, Balewadi to suggest me some good schools. My couple of friends have their daughters in St. Helena's but then from Baner St. Helena's is very far.

You can also check DAV Aundh, Gurukul near Esquare, Vidya Bhavan in Model Colony, Vikhe Patil near Symbiosis (off Senapati Bapat Rd), St. Joseph's on Pashan Rd near University Circle. They are not close to Baner, but not as far away as St. Helena's.

I don't have much of an idea how the above schools are these days, quality wise. So please do enquire in your friend circle for recent feedback. All the best!

Re: Everything Pune : Queries related to living & settling in Pune

Hi BHPians from Pune,

Not sure if this is the right thread. I am looking for a good cardiologist in Pune who can treat my Father-in-law (77 years old). I had fixed an appointment with Dr Amit Sinkar from Shivaji Nagar and was just informed that he had to leave Pune and is back only on Monday. I need to complete the consultation over this weekend.
I am looking for an understanding doctor who will not subject my FIL through a battery of tests given his age.

Thanks in advance and apologies if this isn't the right thread.

1. My cardiologist Dr. Dhopeshwarkar. He has 26+ years of experience and has a private clinic on Law college road opposite Wadeshwar hotel. He also has an opd in Deenanath hospital.

2. My FIL cardiologist Dr Sunil Sathe. Also a senior cardiologist with a private clinic opposite Kamala Nehru park off Prabhat road. He is attached to Ruby hospital.

I found Dr Abhijit Palshikar of Sahyadri Hospital Deccan to be a no nonsense Cardiologist during my consultation with him for my heart condition. Infact he reduced the medication which I was having based on the test reports.

. Couple of my relatives have had angioplasty done by Dr. Sathe. They have recovered well and have only positive words to say about him.

You can consider the following additionally:
1) PICT Model School (heard generally good reviews)
2) Vikhe Patil Memorial School (on SB road, so travel time will be ~45min from Baner in current traffic conditions)
3) Rabindranath Tagore School of Excellence (this follows Cambridge board)

Venturing slightly further,
4) Symbiosis
5) Gurukul

6) Then there's the chain of schools such as VIBGYOR, Orchid

Dr. Satyajeet Suryawanshi
https://theheartclinicaundh.com

He runs his own clinic at Aundh. He did a very complex valve replacement surgery (Aortic valve replacement) for my 70 year old mother in non-invasive way. The surgery was done at Jupiter. Very trust worthy doctor.
