Re: Poll : Your preferred UPI app and why?

Out of the left field, but I use Samsung Pay predominantly. No particular reason. It's got a good UI and works seamlessly with all my bank accounts. I don't trust having any of my data being stored or even routed through Paytm or PhonePe. Have used Amazon Pay once a while.

Re: Poll : Your preferred UPI app and why?

If your bank is decently tech savvy then I don't see any reason to provide access to a 3rd party to be able to pull money from my account. We can't anticipate how those access can be misused. RBI's measures will be only reactionary than preventive. I always use my bank- ICICI mobile app for UPI transfer. One more advantage of using Banks UPI app is that in case of a failed transaction it insantly credits the amount back unlike GPay etc which takes few days.

Poll : Your preferred UPI app and why?-screenshot-20230126-122254.jpg

Voted for Other.

I was a Gpay user till I signed up for my Fi account (fi.money). Now, around 95% of my UPI payments are via Fi and the rest is with GPay and PayTm.

Pros:
  • Zero balance account, no physical visit or documents to open the account.
  • Intuitive UI, easy-to-use app.
  • Easy to track the spending categories.
  • Spending rules that can help you to you save money.
  • Ability to add multiple accounts, though I have not tried that.
  • The reward program is much better than GPay. You get Fi coins which can be redeemed for vouchers or other goodies.
  • The debit card looks

Cons:
  • At times, the app takes more time to open, compared to PayTm or GPay.
  • Some of the better rewards are only available for salary account holders.

Re: Poll : Your preferred UPI app and why?

If you are using Samsung phones, Samsung Pay is very convenient. The app can be accessed through a gesture on the phone screen; gestures work even with the screen off. Samsung Pay supports UPI, credit cards and even stores COWIN certificates. Very convenient to use.

It is also completely non-intrusive with no notifications and pop-ups. I also think that Samsung would be more judicious in harvesting user data than someone like GPay and PhonePe.

Its reward points system is a bonus. Very simple system which gives you a fixed number of points per transaction with the points bring redeemable for shopping vouchers.

It has become my default payment app since the last couple of years!

Re: Poll : Your preferred UPI app and why?

Voted for Amazon pay app as I didn't have to install a new app just for UPI. Their UPI address is easy to remember as well in the format Phonenumber@apl. You can make a UPI address of your own choice like xxxxxx@apl.

Re: Poll : Your preferred UPI app and why?

Gpay is the UPI App which I use. It is so easy to use and so practical. I link only one acc to it so that the balance does not exceed a specific low amount. Even for online payments, I use Gpay although all sites do not have the same success rate on transactions(Some sites work very well while some dont).UPI payments through online sites do not attract any convenience fees, so that is another plus in the favour of UPI.I also have Gpay for business( it is not supported on iPhone, though).
I have also been using Samsung Pay for close to 2 years. Very practical and hassle free.Apple pay is not supported in India yet.

Re: Poll : Your preferred UPI app and why?

My preferred service for UPI based payments is NPCI's BHIM. For most part, its swift and does not require locations for completing the transaction (Google Pay only recently removed that). And it's from the Government too, so no annoying ads or rewards (I've had to switch off notifications from other apps due to pestering notifications )

Google Pay is used for splitting with friends (a very handy feature). PhonePe has a very busy UI, which made me to discard almost immediately after installing.

I wish many phones came with NFC or MFT (i know Samsung has but apparently they are pulling the plug on it).

The switch to Phonepe is not for any kind of rewards but for reliability.

I don't even bother to scratch the scratch cards. I have better things to do in life .

I echo the above thoughts. Standing in an unknown city and Google Pay unreliability had put me into an uncomfortable situation many times.

I switched to PhonePe 2 years ago and there were no issues. However, in the last few days, I am facing occasional hiccups in PhonePe too. On my end, it would keep processing but I hear confirmation on merchants device.

WhatsApp UPI is quite comfortable, my wife shops somewhere and WA me the QR code, and WA immediately realize my upcoming action. No need of switching to another app from WA.

------------

BHIM
I was an early adopter of UPI (when BHIM was launched) services and I have some very small UPI ids. Early adopter means you get a handle of your choice.

I still use BHIM a lot of times and I found v2 of BHIM is quite reliable too.

---------------
Samsung Pay
Moreover, I used Samsung Pay a lot when I had Samsung S10+. So far it's the most convenient app. We have the choice of scan and touch (via NFC) both. NFC Touch with Galaxy Watch is so amazing.

Apple Pay
Unfortunately, when I switched to Apple, I lost this facility as Apple Pay does not offer its services in India.

Re: Poll : Your preferred UPI app and why?

Google pay followed by Paytm. Google pay for ease of use with a simpler and user friendly interface. Paytm as backup in case Google play left me stranded due to some issues on instances which is becoming more frequent to my comfort.

I’m contemplating a permanent switchover to either Paytm or PhonePe.

Re: Poll : Your preferred UPI app and why?

Use BHIM for upi, has been quite reliable for my usage.

Prefer having the UPI Id added as contact for repeat payees.
Avoid scanning a QR code, wherever possible !!!

Believe BHIM should have been a voting option.

There are relatively simple workarounds. YouTube has multiple guides. I enabled it on my Watch 3 for a while but ultimately disabled it - felt it is safer not to have too many devices with payment apps on them.

Re: Poll : Your preferred UPI app and why?

Voted for Others..as BHIM option is not provided.

Extensively using BHIM for my UPI transactions. Also uses Google Pay.
For large value transactions, using BHIM and for small transactions G Pay is preferred.

Both are working fine,no issues,so far.

Re: Poll : Your preferred UPI app and why?

Paytm for UPI only in cases where credit cards are not accepted. A distant 2nd in terms of usage is gpay to transfer money from my savings account to the Paytm payments bank account.

Otherwise it’s credit card always.

Slight OT -

1) any news on Apple Pay? Imagine the convinience of saving the card on the device and using the watch for nfc payments
2) I can’t seem to find this NFC based payment option in gpay. Is it android only?
