Re: Pictures: My Home Garden

Might want to get some bricks or large pebbles to make borders around the key plants. Would be nice to see

I like doing that in my garden.

+1
Making borders around plants and filling remaining area with lime stones/grass and stepping stones will make the garden beautiful. Scope for a nice weekend DIY project!

Re: Pictures: My Home Garden

Absolutely. The next plan of action is that. I have the bricks leftover from my earlier garden and i intend doing exactly what you both have suggested.
This is one of the reasons I post here. Such valuable feedback I get.
Thank you very much.

Re: Pictures: My Home Garden

Gardening experts, is there any permeant cure for Mealybug? I have tried multiple options including Neem Oil, Off the shelf products from Amazon, but nothing worked so far. I had a decent garden of various colors of Portulaca, all destroyed by this bug and its painful and portulaca seems to be the favorite meal of Mealybug. I even stopped watering the plants now.

Hi
I was told mixing a little soap solution along with the neem oil helps. This is info that I have heard. I never tried this as I have never yet been troubled by the bug, touchwood.

We get mealybugs in our hibiscus plants and caterpillars in our jasmine plants.

Neem oil and hand sanitizer seems to be preferred choice out here. Soap water also seems to work.

I have a lot of fire ants in my garden thanks to all the plants and trees. I generally let them be and remove their nests only if close to hooman levels. I suspect these ants and mealybugs formed a partnership!

The mealybugs really do suck out the life of a plant if not controlled well in advance.

Summer Blooms

We are having a very hot summer with temperatures casually touching 110 F. This heat though has brought out the best of the summer blooms. The garden is a riot of colors with the bougainvillea plants in full bloom.

Re: Pictures: My Home Garden

After seeing the pictures in this thread I remember a poem written by Thomas Edward Brown that I studied in school.
Reproducing below.

My Garden

A garden is a lovesome thing, God wot!
Rose plot,
Fringed pool,
Ferned grot—
The veriest school
Of peace; and yet the fool
Contends that God is not—
Not God! in gardens! when the eve is cool?
Nay, but I have a sign;
'Tis very sure God walks in mine.

SUMMER RAINS

I was getting very worried with the insane temperatures we were hitting this year. You can water the plants but the heat was drying up the air and the plants looked dull and tired.

I just clicked a few pictures in the morning yesterday as there was a prediction of showers in the afternoon and intense showers at that.

This was just to see how much was water was going to come down and did it come down or what?

After the recent rains

The recent rains have done wonders to the garden. The plants which had born the brunt of the summer heat have freshened up,so to speak.

The clean leaves and the buoyant flowers are a sight to behold.

Some pictures from the garden

Just a suggestion rajeevsulu, I think you can consider mulching around the base of the plants so that the nutrients of the top layer and not disintegrated due to the scorching sun. This also helps to retain the water.

You can use the fallen down leaves, waste plants, weeds pulled out, anything organic.

Fun fact - the boxes we get for Amazon deliveries are all recyclable and makes for an excellent mulching material.

Keep gardening!

Re: Pictures: My Home Garden

Amazing pics everyone! My wife is a good gardener, and my job is mostly to help water the plants and assist her.

One question though - most of our terrace plants dry up once we come back from roadtrips... has anyone implemented an effective drip irrigation system ?

We bought the TrustBasket one from Amazon but there were many faults like water not coming from all the pipes, some were faulty and some were stuck. Does anyone have any alternative ?

Plastic water bottles filled to the brim and a very tiny pinhole at or near the bottom help our plants stay hydrated for a couple of days. We just place the bottles on by the side of plants. The bottle caps aren't to be fully tightened though.

A jugaad no doubt, but a functional one.
