The latest in indian mob fashion, where everyone takes the law into their own hands and innocents suffer.

Sickening state this country is in.

As of now localised around Central Kolkata. Park Circus, Ripon Street, AJC Bose rd .. a bit near Sealdah. But situation is grim. Police is apparently on the defensive due to the recent Nandigram brouhaha. There's supposedly massive traffic snarls.

Am working from home (North Kolkata), but gotta go get wifey from office later.

Tara Newz was flashing that the government is contemplating getting the army on the streets and if required enforcing a localised curfew.

Good/Bad news. Good news because the situation would be brought under control. Bad news because the perpetrators are still ruling the state. Someone need to treat the root-cause

Sorry state of affairs in WB!

Am surprised to see a CM abetting his own CPM cadres to take law in their owns hands, his statement like 'they were paid back in their own coin!' was sickening!

did someone say Park Circus - well thats where i stay - dad couldnt go for work - brother stuck somewhere near parkcircus - i am still at office (near Parkcircus - mintopark).

sent messages to most of the kolkata gang about the mob violence. asked ETC to stay at office till situation becomes stable.

the affected areas (from what i have heard:
park circus (7 point intersection)
rippon street
camac street
eliot road
dalhousie / esplanade
Topsia
Mullick Bazar
Moulali

boss is thinking of letting us go - but will decide as per situation.

guys - stay alert.

heard that 7-10 cars/buses were set on fire and more than 50 vehicles damaged :(

i love the city so much - and this is what we get in return

Don't try to venture out even if Boss lets go. Stay put at home/office till about 5-6 ish.

The rioters will get tired by then and go home.
Happens every single time.

Sad to know that Cal is going this way. I have a very good impression of the city, based on my stint there when Inidira Gandhi was assasinated. I was just walking out of IISWBM near College street when I saw traffic going haywire. We heard of what had happened after inquiring from some passers-by.
We even saw army trucks patrolling with LMGs mounted. But not a single incident was reported at Calcutta during that time. Owing to that, I held Calcuttans in high esteem.
But what has happened now??

People take care. And remember if your phone calls dont go through, sms. That generally works fine during peak traffic.

Times Now correspondent Suparna Dey reports that "Kolkata could see a curfew at night". The situation sounds serious!

Also reports of 6 vehicles having been burnt in Park Circus.
