MS, i just wanted to ask you a question, why are not posting your pics in official non-auto image thread, apart from 2 pics i have not seen any of your pics in that thread any particular reason ?

A cobra fascinated TBHPians so much. I didnt know that!. In my village, we have cobras but I never cared to carry a camera.next time, I ll.

Im sure it was not hurt and 4hrs is not a long time in it's perspective. The cobra will stand with its hood open as long as it feels that the threat is gone. I'm guessing it was threatened by all the people around. Usually Cobra's open their hood and stay still when they feel threatened.
It is a good thing you dint venture closer because they are capable of spitting venom as far as 10 feet.

Yeah dude, those are called as Spitting Cobras.
They are red/maroon red in color, not found in India though.
They can cause irritation to the skin, though not poisonous to the skin, and can cause a severe damage to the eyes if spit direct on the eyes.

Very nice pics MS. Cobras are very beautiful though dangerous creatures. And the hissing sound they make, i think its damn scary.

It was not moving for 4 hours probably because it might have been standing guard for its eggs somewhere nearby. It might have stayed there for even longer duration. At that time, it is highly dangerous to go near it.
