On AirTel, after few hours of not reachable condition, it no more searches you on the network and change the message to SWITCHED OFF !
I have experienced this a couple of times.

Whenever I don't want to be disturbed on my cell by my dear manager, I just remove the battery and put it back -I go out of reach - the message other people get when they dial my number is "The number you've dialed cannot be reached". Later you can always say that you were out of coverage area or in the elevator or something like that.

Switching off - others will know that you've switched it off..
Removing battery - you are just out of reach!
The network message that you receive when a phone is not reachable depends on the timeout set up on the network.

The last position at which your mobile was reachable is known to your network operator. From this point, your phone will be announced as "unreachable" for a certain period of time (configurable on the switch, therefore different for each network operator - with the bad operators it will even be different on each switch!) - during this period, the network continues to search for your phone. After that period of time the network stops looking for you and changes the announcement to 'switched off'.

Yes some networks go to the point of analyzing the reason for disconnect and change the message based on that, however do not depend on that. The message played back is based on what the Operator has set up, not based on what you do with your mobile.

I'm sure you mean NoBhPhobia. For a mod, Team-Bhphobia, i.e. fear of the forum is not very believable.

Do not know about nomophobia. Yes, I have stored all my information in my mobile like the phone nos and other details. Cannot do without it even a single day and the type of industry I work requires mobile every minute.

I guess I suffer big time from nomophobia ... I always keep my mobile phone inside the right pocket of my trousers. And I inadvertently slide my hand on my right side to make sure it's still there. This is so because once my cellphone slid from my pocket while I was in the rickshaw and I lost if forever. I really panic when I don't find it in that pocket ( call me crazy, but what can I do), a few seconds of search and I realise it's in some other pocket I do have a CALL REJECT LIST on my phone where in I can punch in the undesirable numbers and when they call me all they hear is a dialtone. It's a godsend boon, I guess it's common on most phones nowdays?

Guess your industry never existed prior to 1996.

No NoMophobia for me. I switch it off sometimes just to see if I can.
I wish to get rid of it but my folks back home don't allow it.
