Eight Marbles Puzzle

A friend of mine came up with this puzzle and is quite intriguing.

Take an 8x8 checkered board (chessboard for example)] and 8 marbles. Place the marbles in the checkered space such that no two marbles are inline vertically, horizontally or diagonally.

Sounds simple. Let the adventure begin.

In my reply, I have marked 2 red squares which happen to be inline diagonally and hence not correct.

The red marked squares are in one diagonal line....

EDIT: I see Akhilesh beat me to it. How about my solution Akhilesh?

EDIT2: Trial and error. Knew extreme corners wont work, so started from middle (4th column) and adjusted a little. Surprisingly did not take much time, this one.

Correct. Good work. Can you explain your methodology here or was it just trial and error. You see this puzzle can only be solved if first place of marking is correct. i.e You need to place the first marble in the correct location after which everything else follows.

Another thing, the correct solution will always be a mirror image. hence if the board is lit in two from middle, you will get identical but opposite halves.

@mods: Sorry for multiple posts in short span of time.
