The whole speculation of reduction in prices is because of a proposed reduction in additional excise duties on cars from 8% to 4%. The news is pretty much credible because it was the headlines in the economic times a few weeks back. In lay-man's terms a car costing about 6lacs will come down by around 20k.

The real question is how much of it will actually filter down to the customer. The auto companies may not reduce the price by much, inorder to absorb rising steel prices. They are already giving discounts on all cars, which will essentially be the regular price for the car.

the excise duty and customs duty are sure to have a cut but i dont think so that the manufacturers will pass the benefit to the consumer bcoz of hike in certain raw materials .. but all we can do is wait and watch and hope for the best

To be honest, I don't really care that much for local car taxes, BUT I sre do hope that import duty on CBU's come down to atleast the below 75% margin.

Impact of Budget ??

Hello all,

What would be the impact of the budget on the overall auto-industry?? Would auto-maufacturers be encouraged to bring in new models into the country?? Would the new models be manufactured locally or bought in as CBUs??

Does it make sense to go in for a new car at this point of time or is it prudent to wait untill the VAT story unfolds??

Your comments are very valuable.. So post on..

Manish.

The impact of the budget is fantastic on the overall economy (over a 4 year period)...that said, as long as theres wealth in the market - auto manufacturers will come and sell their wares.

Whats relevant to the auto head:

1. Additional 50 paise cess on petrol and diesel
2. Lower spare parts price only till April. They will then come back to regular rates.
3. User imported car duties reduced from 105% to 100%.
