There should be plenty of people in Bangalore who rescue snakes. There is one guy called Mohammed Anees (saw him on tv) who rescues snakes. You can even try calling the BBMP. They have a wildlife cell to attend to these situations. Lastly, try Just dial


I found these fellas on a trek to Kudremukh last week

I almost stepped on this one. This was a baby Green Vine snake



This was a baby Rat snake


This was a rare sighting. A sand Boa (I think). I could never imagine finding a Sand Boa in a place like Kudremukh.

Initially I thought he must hav visited Agumbe, but that wall in the picture indicates it was all made up!! However, a very good action you captured there.. It should have been fun to watch that at Bannerghatta while you cant go to Agumbe and hunt for days / months for such action.

I was leafing through the pages of a newspaper when this photo-feature caught my eye. The title asks "Is it a snake or what ?", which was exactly my thought when I saw the guy handling the snake as if it was a pet. More so because the article mentions the snake as "Raja Vembala" meaning "King Cobra". Is it really so simple to handle a King ?

Yes. Amazing thing that. Ever since I heard of the king cobra village in Thailand, I've been wanting to go there.

IIRC, these videos have been aired on either Discovery or on Nat Geo some time back. Apparently, the children of this village are trained to handle snakes at a very young age.

Some info on the King Cobra:

Unlike India, King Cobras are very common and widespread in Thailand and other parts of South East Asia. The IUCN, which determines the conservation status of each species, has listed the King Cobra under LC (Least Concerned) category. This is because of the fact that King Cobras are more commonly seen across South East Asia.

In India though, it is an endangered species. From what I heard from Gowrishankar, Conservation Officer, ARRS, Agumbe, they are trying to prove that the India King Cobra is a different sub species so that they can try to get more help in the conservation efforts.

People might recall these scenes from the movie John Rambo (Rambo 4), where Rambo supplies snakes to these showmen.

This guy is a freak, he is a showoff. He does all these kind of tricks for getting a loud applause from the crowd. he has been bitten thrice and all the time by a cobra while showing off, still he does not seam to learn . Catching a snake = bravery but putting your life at stake just to get the lime light is nothing but a freak show.

I found this snake skin in my friend's estate a few weeks back. It was perfectly taken off as if someone had removed it by hand. There was not even a single tear. Looking by the length, I think it is the good old Rat snake.

King cobras are most found in some place called kolli hills near trichy i guess

Can someone identify these snakes? both were found in nilgiris.
The first one was fast and very active and the second one was slow and lazy.

They are not snakes, they are Caecilians. In simple words limbless lizards.

Hi Pramod, The second one did behaved like a snake. but the first one even i felt it was not a snake. I still doubt the second one. can i get any specific details about it?
