My hair loss started when i was back home in the states (around lets say 15-16). I got the genes from my mom's side (she has hair loss, my uncle does, his kids may have the gene as well). I cant tell you how hard it is for a teenager to go through male pattern baldness, especially when others around you have a full set of hair. I tried shampoos, etc, but finally decided to get on a combo of minox and Finasteride (Propecia over there, Finast, Finax, et all here) about 5 years ago.

So far its worked great, but my front hairline really hasnt shown much improvement and i doubt it ever will unless i get a transplant or something. When i moved to india for college back in 05, i stopped the pills for a while and immediately noticed the hair fall coming back. Luckily finasteride is damn cheap here compared with back in the US. I have the 5% minox from back home as well. I still feel sort of depressed every time i go outside cause MOST people here, young and old, still have a full head of hair. It sucks cause its hard to style thin hair as well :(. I know they say that bald/balding men are more virile, macho, et all..but i'd rather have a full head of hair that doesnt make my forehead so prominent. I think in india, at least for me, the environment (dust, pollution, etc) and the hardness of the water has somewhat negatively affected my hair consistency.

Though not really hairloss, I have hair which is extremely weak, and lacks density. I know a lot of things like genetics and hormones are involved, but is there any workaround ? During the weekend trip to Tirupati, I got a tonsure. Was wondering if there are any tips for improving hair quality (apart from diet and exercise of course )

try soapnut

hi! all try soap nut( it is called kunkudu kaya in telugu). take few nuts boil them in water for 10-15 minutes. squeeze them as much as possible. use that water for head bath. reduces irritation and over the time hair fall also. it is forest produce. dandruff also gets reduced faster any of the specialist shampoos claim to be.

Even i have thinning of hair in my front part and doctor advised to shave it fully every 15 days for 4 times and apply tugen gel which has minox 5 along with 2 tablets which need to be taken once a day. Also he has prescribed some shampoo which you need to have put it in your hair while having a bath.

Believe you me people, i can see the results right in front of me. I had Alopecia in 2nd stage and he said 80% of your lost hair will be back. Although i dont have bald spot, just that my scalpe is lightly visible in sunlight and i thought it will deteriorate as i grow old.

He said you are still young and hair growth will be back, but just that treatment will continue for 3 to 5 years which i dont mind.

I dont have a family history of hair loss, nor does anyone in my family have hair problems, this was triggered by depression and stress and hence he said reversible i guess.

I always get an "army-cut" to cope with the problem - nice way to evenly show-off skin or else it looks LC.

i donot apply any kinda hair cream / medicine.

Guys finasteride/ propecia has a long time effect on you libido and can lead to even testicular cancer.

Regarding Minox or Minoxidil , as soon as you stop the usage of this drug, hair fall starts again especially if you have androgenic alopecia (Male pattern baldness).

Medicines could have side-effects. Hence I'm not looking at that route. Oils/egg options anyone ?

I agree. seriously guys, how can you put chemicals on your body so carelessly. I repeat what i do all the time, Human body has evolved over millions of years to a near perfect form. don't try to change it artificially so fast. (same goes for everything that comes out of supplements/cosmetics/pharma industry).

I would actually prefer a toupee or wig over a chemical. But easier is just to crop it military style or shave it off like michael jordan or andre agassi.

I had very thick hair on my scalp until to I moved to US in 1993, after a month I started having hair fall. The owner of Sringar hair salon in Oak tree road in NJ (Little India) told me, that it happens to lot of Indians when they come to US and take shower in heavily chlorinated water. Since then I have suffered constant hair loss all around the scalp, no MPB in my case. And I have had premature greying and dandruff since high school.

After fighting more than half my life with greying/dandruff/baldness, I finally found the solution.

Since May 2009 I have starting shaving my head, which eliminated all the 3 problems in a single stroke. Now my chief weapon is Gillette triple balde system, better than any chemical/medicine/herb/black-magic.

This is not new to me, I was doing the shaving thing every year for 2-3 months when I was abroad. Then I was using headblade, now I am forced to use a normal razor. It doesn't take more than 5 minutes and I do it weekend.

HeadBlade® | Ultimate Head Shaving Razor & Head Care Products

Disclaimer: I am not in anyway commerically associated with Headblade or Gillette company.

Moral: Hair is overrated. Don't be afraid of Bald Men, or of becoming one. Starting scalp-shaving, defeat hair-loss, grey hair & dandruff. Works every time, Guaranteed.

It may or may not; finasteride doesnt actually lead to testicular cancer, it masks the tumor markers that indicate the presence of cancer. But as per my knowledge, this hasnt been shown conclusively. If this was true, then this drug would have been stopped by the FDA a long time ago. Finasteride actually prevents prostate cancer because this drug originally was used to treat the condition.

Merging duplicate thread ... May be we can discuss this in broader prospect.

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/gadget...solutions.html

Hair Loss Story - Solutions. We already have body building, weight loss and dentist advice thread. So wanted to start this thread. Hope Mods are fine with it.

I am not sure how many of us are bothered about receding hair line and decrease in hair density (Male balding pattern), still it seems to be a good idea to share first hand experiences of members. I have noticed, health magazines , news papers are flooded with hair transplant advts/techniques, i am not sure how useful those are. After all i have seen many bald bollywood actors - who can afford any costly alternatives.

Does it work? What are options? and Donts.

Not to mention i do have receding hair line but never concerned me , in fact i like to keep them short and simple. But still getting it done is not hurting me :-)

So please suggest-share.

Re: Trichologists in Hyderabad? As well as other Hair and Scalp Discussions

people,

any update? i had nice thick hair which needed hair cut once in 15 days till i went to engineering. after that lost hair and receding hairline .... funny part is i dont experience any hair loss now, just that it disappears.

Some one mentioned cutis clinic in Vijaya nagar in Bangalore? any one has tried their medicine? looks like they too give mintop and many places i read that mintop has side effects. Even my manager in office told me "if you are planning to get married soon, dont try those hair growth medicine" any alternative solution to get decent amount of hair?

Any one has done hair transplant? any side effects from hair transplant?

Re: Trichologists in Hyderabad? As well as other Hair and Scalp Discussions

well to be honest the only thing that most dermats prescribe is minoxidil and finasteride tabs,Finasteride is a DHT blocker and helps re grow sum of your lost hair, besides vitamin a tabs also help in promoting hair growth.

I have been on treatment for a long time now,my doc alternates between tugain, mintop, and tugain foam....the basic idea is to not let the body get used to a particular med as it lowers its effect.

My hair loss was attributed to steroid treatment that i underwent to nurse a shoulder injury, with all the shots of deca,i had terrible mood swings a blood test later showed i had very low testosterone which was brought back to normal using sustanon injections, but i lost hair since a lot of artificial testosterone was being taken in,my orthopedic didn't warn me abt the side effects and i lost a whole lot of hair.

The best what has worked for me so far is minoxidil and finax

I agree, this is what Cutis clinic Dr Chandrashekar prescribes
Minoxidil - 5% Gel, Finastride + biotin(vitamin) tablets. Hair growth is definetly seen with Minoxidil application, but the moment you stop applying it, hairfall starts , hair is back to the original format which was before applying the GEL.
I wouldn't suggest any of these, as I have heard about the side affects of the above prescriptions

Re: Trichologists in Hyderabad? As well as other Hair and Scalp Discussions

Good to know that I have some company here! I have been looking for some hair solutions and all I end up doing is spending money.

My story-
My father had good amount of hair until he retired when started to bald and all his brothers don't have any baldness, even on my mother's side. I started loosing my hair first when I went to US. The hair seemed to fall in heaps just like that, every morning I would wake up to see a lot f hair on the pillow and every time I took shower it was even horrible, the hair used to collect in the near the sink in clumps. I went from from a healthy stuffed head to baldness in the front. Then I when I came back home the hair loss stopped but to regrow the thinning front I took homeopathy at Dr.Batras and all they did was give me white pills and ask me to wash my hair often. But it gave no results. I again happened to visit US on work which again took a tool on my hair . I went from thin hair to real bald in the middle and could only curse as no shampoo helped. I even took a course of Procerin for 5 months but shockingly it reduced my hair further and in its place came very fine shorter hairs, . So, I stopped that too and cut short my stay there and returned.

Once I came back home again my hair fall stopped as before. I have swore since then never to go to US for long stays. This time I lost so much hair that except the sides and back I have very less hair in front (one can count!) and a patch in the middle. This time went o Dr.Health managed by that trichologist couple, they asked me to use some shampoo and again some white pills. All totally useless and I feel they are scamming people, I stopped going there too.

I have since remained part bald with a patch in the middle and sparse hair in the front. The hair is not falling but also not growing where I went bald.

I am still interested in any remedies which are affordable and not a risk to health in general.
Well, as Samurai says there's always the Gillette option!
