Watched Joji. It was slow and dragging. Took me 5 hours to watch the 2.5 hours movie.
Priest was even worse. Somehow managed 1 hour. Then had to abort.
Will ignore Mandela :)
Watched Ayyappanum Koshiyum (4th time) and Drishyam 2 (2nd time) to recover from joji and priest. |
JohnyBoy- Thanks for suggesting the movie AK, a very interesting Genre of Masala movie. Is there a part 2?

Very unlikely. The maker of part 1 (writer/director) is no more. Also one of the main actor in it.

Yes, Sachy (writer/director) and Anil Nedumangad (the senior police officer) are no more..
According to The News Minute, ".... the movie keeps you engaged for nearly all the three hours with no dramatic twists or turns or characters turning a new leaf overnight"
- this is the reason i liked the movie

If you liked AK, try Driving Licence.

Yes very true, and the slap on his wife is a fantastic twist though. There is a no real villain too. Both of them are good at hearts and repent to what they have done.
It is very unfortunate to read Anil died in a swimming incident in a dam. Open water body is always very tricky. RIP To both of them.
Any kannada movie aficionados here? :D
Planning to watch "Yuvarathnaa" from Amazon prime.

IMDB ratings seem good, first hand experience of someone who has watched it?
Off topic: Has any one got a better recommendation on Amazon prime across other languages?

Do not go by IMDB ratings (though it shows 5.9/10 today). I watched the film based on ratings given on Prime and I was disappointed. It still shows 89% liked it. :)

Thanks so much @procrj for linking the regional movies thread.
A quick glance on that thread led me to a damning verdict of this movie.
Critical review of movie here
Also, quite funny to see 10 likes for such a damning review on that movie. rl:
One - Malayalam -
4/5
Launched in theatres in March and now is on Netflix.
Glad to see Mammotty is back with two back to back thrillers. One is Priest (yeah, with mixed reviews), but this "One" is a good movie to watch. Certainly due to Mammoty's presence as this is first of its kind of a role played by him. CM of Kerala. Political drama/thriller with a nice concept with a message and decent plot. Slightly long at times and drag, but an interesting watch in these lock down times.
Another highlight of the movie is you could see most of yesteryear big screen/mini screen actors appearing one after the other in different roles. Happy to see they have been offered roles, though very small. Gopi sunder's background score resembled some of that of Dhrishyam's.
ONE - Malayalam. I am still a fan of commercial entertainers and we rarely get half decent ones now a days with all the focus on the realistic, psycho stuff that attracts a pan India audience. In addition Mammootty is majestic in the CM role in a way only he can pull off. Hence I liked it. Was a little disjointed and dragging, but still ok.
3.5/5 Quote:

Yeah, it was like a star spotting activity through out. When I saw Nimisha Sajayan, I assumed she would have a major role or scene considering her recent movies and performances. But was surprised that she just had a couple of scenes totally irrelevant to the movie. I assume she took it to check off from her to do list - 'Do a movie with Mammootty'. Similar to Manju Warrier in Priest. :)
Was also sad to see Jagadeesh, who was hugely popular in the 90's along with Mukesh and Siddique doing these almost tiny roles with 2-3 scenes. He could not reinvent himself as he matured the way Mukesh and especially Siddique did. Or maybe he did not get the right roles..

Nothing interesting, if u r hardcore appu fan, give it a try, just mundane story and no punches, I didn't like it. Better watch the malayalam flick ayappan koshyum with subtitles, it is 1000 times better and original :Frustrati
Ayyappanum Koshiyum (5/5)
One of the finest movies I've watched, and gripping till the very end. Movie is about human emotions like pride and vengeance (To the limits). Pitting the main leads against each other. Entire movie is shot well, with some realistic fight scenes. The lead cast have delivered a smashing performance, with story/screenplay as the highlight. Do watch![quote=doxinboy;5055758]

I dont understand the language, yet such a realistic movie, far removed from hyper unrealistic movies that youngsters these days patronize. The best thing about this movie is the way it is portrayed, it's like watching anger & fight on our regular streets. A hero with anti gravitational ability of punching hundred bad dudes has become so much nuanced is quiet nauseating in Kannada cinemas, that forced me to look for an oasis elsewhere. I've become a fan of malayalam flicks:Cheering:
