You may never get to visit that place again.
Yesterday there was a sting operation by news channel "headlines today"
and the police had no option but to swoop down and shut the place
which was doling out "classical dance". Another half a century old similar joint in Mount Road was also closed down.

Funny thing is the very same channel was doing an half an hour programme the previous day on John Abhraham's butt interspersed with almost nude visuals. The next day the very same channel does a sting on a joint like this and 'cleans up society'.
Why should a channel which is owned by the reputed India Today group stoop so low to earn it's bread and butter.

IMO the joint is less harmfull as they cater only to individuals above 18, wheras this news channel can be watched by any kid and should have more responsibility and shouldn't indulge in Rakhi Sawant like sensationalism.

Re: Good Disco in Chennai

Guys, sorry for forgetting to update:

I visited the following place: went to Dublin long back but later forgot to update. The place rocked, but not that much impressed with thier collection of songs.

I visited Bikes and barells recently thats when I remembered that I forgot to update. They were playing good music.

Planned to visit the following places during next few months (I know I said the same thing a year back ).
1. Pasha
2. Flame Le Club (cos thats the most nearest to Tambaram)

BTW, which hotel does the Disco Distill belong to??

Re: Good Disco in Chennai

Nice to find an update after on year. I am also kinda new to the place and was just reading through the thread. Never been out partying here. I guess the rates Pasha and Dublin that is mentioned here would have gone up considerably now.

And guys anyone has infor on what they charge per couple in these discs. I mean I am considering Pasha, Dublin, Distil, 10D and Sparks
Sparks charge around 1000(750/- cover & remaining drink) for couples entry on weekends.

experience at Sparks Pub

I was at sparks yesterday.

My observations:
1.) We came in around 10 PM, the place was totally deserted & all the waiters were least bothered about serving us when the cricket was played live on the LCD.
2.) For a couple 1000/- charged upfront, it was Hip-hop extreme night though i prefer places playing rock & metal music but where in Chennai do we get it & also my wife prefer hip-hop so needed to create a balance
3.) Crowd is young, but i can assure you this is not the place for a couple, when the crowd sets in you would see only majority of guys gaping around. I am not sure if they are lax about their restriction in the end, overall it is a totally gay pub
4.) Drinks are reasonably priced. But we just happened to lose the entry coupon in the pub, did not get 750/- reduced in our final bill. :-(
5.) DJ music was OK but being hip-hop I was expecting a lot more bass. Rock/metal music can generate more bass, Blame it on the DJ or mediocre setup?
6.) Few of their cocktails(cuban special, long island) were not upto mark but again this varies from person to person. Shooters were too good good.
7.) No parking problem at the hotel.

Overall not too good-not too bad.
Conclusion - If you are on a tight budget go for sparks.
I have to try Dublin or Pasha next time.

Mr_Bean: Great review there. Thanks a lot for the review.
Looks like Sparks is not impressive.

Did go thro your drawbacks. Do visit Dublin you will not be disappointed for sure. Its not a gay club

It will be more or less the same kind of setup.
A open area in the sandy shore and a thatched covered area.
Will function as a coffee shop from Monday to thursday and as a Disco the rest of the days. Don't know whether 'Rain theme' days will be back.

My favorite places would be 10D, Zaras, and Dublin.

Zaras is not a disc but it is a good Tapas bar, where you can eat good food and listen to some good music. Wednesday is ladies night.

I feel that Dublin gets the best crowd, especially on Fridays as it is ladies night :-)

Best time to goto 10D is on a Wednesday as it is ladies night, good crowd comes then, free drinks for ladies till 9pm. On thursday's it is kareok, on Friday it is vintage night. Mondays are only good if you are thirty plus cause you get some good discounts.

Re: Good Disco in Chennai

Hotel Spring has been revamped. Star Rock has been revamped too. Charged Rs.750 per head with 500rs worth free liqor. I'm not sure whether it was an offer or so. The place is OK with some loud music. Started off with Trance and ended with Bhangra. Liqors spread was decent, but a lof them were not available. Price seems to be on the higher side for what the place has to offer.
