Cricketer Andrew Symonds is no more. :disappointed

England vs NZ at Lord's - both teams' first innings set to be wrapped up by the start of day 2! Is the bowling that good or the conditions that tricky? Anyone watching on TV, could you comment. (I'm just following text commentary on Cricinfo.)

I can say one thing with certainty :)

If this was the score on an Indian pitch in the first 2 days - the pitch will be blamed.

Since this is the score on an English pitch - the batsmen will be blamed for poor shots

True that.

17 wickets fell on Day 1.

England is already wrapped up and NZ is 3 down before lunch on day 2.

If this had happened on an Indian pitch the foreign media will quickly term it as a turning minefield and blame the curators. As it's happening in England no one has said a thing.

Questions about the pitch (or rather, the lack of questions around it!) aside, Root reaches 10,000! What an achievement, what a player!

21 year old Mumbai batsman Suved Parkar hits double ton on first class debut against Uttarakhand in the Ranji Trophy quarter-final. Suved is only the 12th Indian batter to achieve this feat! He was ultimately dismissed for a marathon 252 of 447 balls.

.... And missed the record score for a debutant by 8 runs.

Also Sarfaraz Khan is in the form of his life. Scoring 150, 200s, 300s at will. What a batting line up for Mumbai this.

He actually missed the record by 89 runs. :)
There are 3 other batters who have notched up higher scores on debut.

  • Saqibul Gani 341 (for Bihar vs Mizoram at Kolkata in 2021-22)
  • Ajay Rohera 267* (for Madhya Pradesh vs Hyderabad at Indore in 2018-19)
  • Amol Muzumdar 260 (for Mumbai vs Haryana at Faridabad in 1993-94)

That's right. I meant the record for Mumbai.

PS: Amul Mazumdars podcast with Gaurav Kapur, where he talks about this record and Ajay Rohera eventually breaking it, is awesome. Do give it a shot :thumbs up

Superb achievement!
He was lucky to be drafted into the side in place of Rahane and it happened only because Rahane was injured.

KL Rahul and Kuldeep Yadav ruled out of the SA t20 series. Rishabh Pant will captain the team while Hardik will be the vice captain.

Rahul is out with a groin injury while Kuldeep was hit on the hand during net practice.

Bengal Ranji team created history by beating a global first class record that stood the test of time for more than a century! Playing against Jharkhand in the Ranji Trophy quarter-final, all the 9 Bengal batsmen who took guard scored 50 or above to beat the 129 year old record.

Report

That one of the longest playing international cricketers has decided to finally hang up her boots needs at least a mention in this thread.

One could love or hate her, but any serious follower of the game couldn’t really ignore Mithali’s contribution to the game. Of course, she too was cursed with the eternal bane of most greats - not retiring in her prime and therefore, being the target of experts and commentators.

Nevertheless, wouldn’t hurt to say Well done Chief!

What a wonderful record. She definitely inspired so many cricketers and will be remembered as long as cricket is played.
