What is wrong with PAN card? Why not extend it?
Typical govt attitude, create mess. Then create another mess to mop up previous mess.

I will agree to this UID thing if they starts working and showing fruits.

I expect the UID to subsume all other id systems in due course, like Social Security in the US or National Insurance in the UK.

I must add we have infinite talent in barking up the wrong tree. See the latest KYC in Mutual Funds. You can only invest by Cheque, all dividends and payouts are by cheque and any transaction of 2L or more gets reported in the AIR. So I think this is the least likely place for Black Money to be parked.

Taking people from business into government through executive appointments is a peculiarly western, largely US, practice. It has not been successful. McNamara, appointed from being president of Ford Motors to the Kennedy cabinet, as Defence Secretary, led the disastrous Vietnam War. Cheney too as Bush's Defence Secretary during the Iraq war was anything but a success. Nilekani's appointment was non-transparent. It is not known how or why the PM chose him.

I find this whole idea of Adhaar so vague

But someone told me that i can get the adhaar enrollment from nearest post office. So need some feedback on this.

Do we need to purchase some form from there or is there any need for appointment ?
Since this applies for all family members, i want to know if even children are included ?

thanks in advance

Don't count on Post Offices. I am not sure they are doing it now. ( This is not the official site. The fficial site to refer to is http://uidai.gov.in/ )

In November, Karnataka Govt. had announced that the second phase of Aadhaar enrollment will start in the first week of December. Even the names of the enrollment agencies was announced.

Though delayed, it is likely to start anytime now. The venues will be notified and you can get the application forms (free) and enroll.

Even a newborn can be enrolled. Children will be required to reregister again at 5 and then 15 years. More details here: http://uidnumber.org/aadhar/wiki/Aadhaar_for_children

For some reason, the edit did not go through.

The link I had given in the previous post is not the official site.

More info can be obtained from the official site http://uidai.gov.in/

UID can not be mandatory - Punjab HC

Does anyone know why some centres are not accepting downloaded copies of the Aadhaar form? I have made 3 trips to the Bane compound centre in Mumbai and yet to receive a form. They do not accept printouts. Also, they only give out max. 5 forms but I need 6 for my family.

With a senior citizen, a differently abled person and 2 kids, I would ideally like to complete the formalities on a Saturday.

Anyone here knows of 'Citizen friendly' centres in Mumbai?

Guys

Are people aware that subsidy on domestic gas cylinders is being linked to Aadhar cards shortly? At least in Hyderabad it seems to be happening. See the mail we got from our HR today:-

"SUBMIT AADHAAR DETAILS BY FEB. 15 FOR LPG SUBSIDY: - Domestic LPG consumers in the city will have to submit their Aadhaar number and bank account details at the respective gas distribution agencies by February 15 to obtain subsidized cylinders. Those who fail to do so will have to pay nearly Rs 1,000 to get a non-subsidized cylinder against the subsidized price of Rs 412.50. Commissioner of civil supplies Sunil Sharma on Wednesday said that the Aadhaar number was mandatory to obtain subsidized cylinders. It’s the decision taken by the Centre to implement Aadhaar linked direct transfer of cash subsidy scheme in selected districts across the country. It will be implemented initially in Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts.
PF will also be linked to Aadhaar cards after 31 March 2013 for new members and 30 June 2013 for existing PF members. So if you haven’t got the Aadhar card yet, get it. "

UID has no legal sanctity, says lawyer-activist - http://cis-india.org/news/the-hindu-...legal-sanctity

Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) and the UID project have no legal sanctity, said independent law researcher and human rights activist Usha Ramanathan on Saturday.

Speaking at a workshop on the UID, the National Population Register and Governance, organised by the Centre for Internet and Society, Ms. Ramanathan said the UIDAI has “no clear legal status.” “The fact that there are no limits placed on its functioning is deeply worrying,” she remarked.

Why cant the govt enact a law and make it lawful and mandatory if that is what they wish?If after spending so much money, if its not mandatory, its disgusting.

Then I would suggest that you send an online complaint to DARPG as indicated in my post #60. Sure it is a pain as I know it, but we did get a prompt reply from UIDAI in a fortnight after they got a kick from them and our aadhaar cards subsequently.

My UID is still not come after two and half years.
It is almost three months since I complained to DARPG. Absolutely no response. I wrote an email to Nandan Nilekani's email id provided on UIDAI website. Again, no response.
I have given up now. Will enrol again only if that UID becomes mandatory.

Can I put an RTI for not
receiving the card?

Why? I don't want an Aadhaar card and I never will. Why are you trying to make it mandatory for me. If you want one, feel free to get one.

Indian citizens are any politician's dream. No where in the world will you find so many citizens who are willing give up any and all of their rights.

Ultimately there will be one card. Currently existing systems (or cards) cant be moved out in one go towards Aadhar and hence the delay (as far as I understand).

If you are ok with PAN card, ration card, election card, why not accept one card to replace all ? It has nothing to do with Politics.

PAN, Passport, DL, Ration card or Election card serves certain purpose and UID number cannot replace these as of now. There is no plan (shared by Govt) to replace these in future. AFAIK, scope of Aadhar is to provide a number to those who don't have identify proof. The idea is with this number, those folks can open bank account. As of now, there is nothing more that can be done with UID number.

Why PF office needs UID?
Every tax payer has a PAN. It makes more sense to link PAN with PF (which is already the case).

Why LPG subsidy needs UID?
LPG connection is issued on basis of ration card, and ration card itself is given to a family (which is already the case).

In both these cases, Aadhar is redundant information.
