+1. I noticed the same.
It could be counterfeit also, not just looking like it.
I got a book with very good quality front cover (and with plastic protection), but inside pages were very bad - quality of paper and printing. Even the cutting of the paper was not aligned properly.
I think some 'bad' guys are printing cheap copies and selling online.

Re: The Books Thread (Fiction)

Some of the recent fiction reads:
1. Artemis by Andy Weir
Decided to read this after the incredible craze on another novel of his, The Martian. Yes the same where Matt Damon is stranded on Mars. However, found Artemis to be very mediocre. A pass.

2. The Shining by Stephen King
Yes guilty of not having read this so far. The book is simply fabulous even if you have seen the movie. Gripping and nerve racking. Read this if you feel lonely (trust me you won't after this )

3. The Camel Club by David Baldacci
I generally read Lee Child, but thought to venture to Baldacci for a change. Found this book OK. Nothing grand. Baldacci's protagonist suffer from being just too damn good for any villain. Like Hulk fighting the Winter Soldier

The Books Thread (Fiction)-300.jpeg
How many of you guys are fans of the film 300? I certainly am (since I am big ancient Greco-Roman fanboy) and ever since I got to know that the film was an adaptation of the graphic novel, I wanted to get my hands on the book. But fate conspired to make me wait for about 11-12 years and now finally, I got myself the graphic novel.

I have to say that if you are a huge graphic novel fan even if you do not share the same passion I have for ancient Greece, then this is a must-have in your collection. The novel is visibly a lot darker and more bloody that the film but I have to say that the graphics is absolutely amazing and the story is riveting as well.

Leaving you with the scene and the dialog which still inspires people! "Molon Labe!!!!!'

Re: The Books Thread (Fiction)

Noticed an advertise of upcoming Netflix Serries by Shahrukh Khan named "Bald of Blood". After that, I was just casually surfing on a free ebook Website. The book named "The Bald of Blood" by Bilal Siddiqi caught my attention. I started reading it just to remain ahead of its Netflix launch. Its a good book with all the amazing subjects like RAW, ISI, Secret Agents, Balochistan, Taliban, etc. The author has done a great job with the way he introduces and establishes each character in its surrounding environment with individual chapters dedicated to them in the beginning.

Quote:
The Bard of Blood is Siddiqi’s first novel, published in 2015 when he was 20, and written while he was still in college. At 300 pages, the novel traverses India, Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan and flits between past and present as it tracks a tale of espionage and inter-state rivalry. The greenhorn novelist includes all the elements of a potboiler, making it ripe for a retelling on the screen

Re: The Books Thread (Fiction)

Any book suggestions by Haruki Murakami? I have read his book "Norwegian Wood" and it was a good read. His style of writing was a bit on the slower side but the creation of the scene was very vivid and descriptive. Or any writers along the same lines?

Bard of Blood= Zero Stars

Like a lot of others, I came to know about this book via Netflix.

It is among the WORST books I've read on the subject. Cliches galore, no characterization, no skill with words - nothing in the book works.

Don't waste your time guys.

Was that your first Murakami book? Well then, welcome to the weird, wonderful and surreal world of the master. I'll segment his books that I have read into three categories.

The first five are the easiest to read. But do note that most of his books have the same recurring themes that get replayed.

Mildly surreal
Norwegian Wood.
Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki

Surreal
Kafka on the Shore
IQ84
Killing Commendatore

Fairly Bonkers
The Elephant Vanishes
The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle
After the Quake
Blind Willow, Sleeping Woman.
Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World.

Yes that was my first Murakami as suggested by my cousin. Her exact words were that "it's one of the least weird books he has written". Thank you for the suggestions. Will surely have a look at the others. I have "Kafka on the shore" with me and will start reading it soon.

I assume you finished this? I also assume you have tasted every thing else by the same author?

His first book was supposed to be made into a movie. But looks like, its not yet done.
