Re: The Credit Card Thread

Redeemed my Citibank IOC Platinum card points for free fuel. Very easy process and good value too (1 point = 1 Rp.). Had collected around 2000 points, so got a full tank of diesel free !!

Re: The Credit Card Thread

So SBI says that they have investigated the transaction, and they find it valid. They are refusing to provide details of the transaction.

Any next steps that I can do ?

( Btw, have paid the full amount so I don't have any outstanding from my previous statement. )

There must be an ombudsman or else you could escalate it to a consumer forum.

Re: The Credit Card Thread

I tried to get details of the transaction from SBI. I replied to their mails asking for the details. I then noticed a pattern - the responses were the same, with only the name of sending employee /resource being different. So I replied to their last mail saying that they don't seem to be reading my mails at all. And as expected, I got another copy of the content of their previous 5-6 mails.

@Honeybee, yes will have to do one of those. But not sure I want to go to consumer court for the time it can take to go thru the process. The duration is not the question, but the effort is.

You may approach ombudsman for timely result. But before that you need escalate the issue within GE-SBI. I doubt you will get any response from them.

Re: The Credit Card Thread

@MaxTorque, I had called GE-SBI's customer support number and then raised the dispute (this involves a small fee). I have tried to get it resolved through the dispute redressal, but no result.

Do I need to try another path in GE-SBI before going to the Ombudsman ?

Re: The Credit Card Thread

While chip-cards are more secure, I wish they came with 2 pins:
- one for point of sale swiping &
- other for transactions at ATM such as cash withdrawal.
This is actually needed for debit cards, which is mostly used for withdrawing cash.

I have also noticed something strange. The billing assistant sometimes asks for pin when a chip card is handed over. In some restaurants, the waiter wants to write down the pin when I hand over my card for billing. Many folks give out their pins when asked. There are people who shout out their pin when they hand over card.

So if a fraudster hears the pin and if he can spoof the card number, he gets everything in the account. I don't think bank will entertain dispute in this case since the pin is divulged. This is as good as the account holder withdrawing the cash from his account.

Yes, before approaching the ombudsman, we need to give sufficient time/chance to SBI. The detailed procedure has been explained here.

From my personal experience with SBI card, I wanted to cancel an SBI card due to their bad service. I could not find the exact amount of pending, for that I approached their customer care and they were not giving any clear answer. Finally I paid some amount which was less than the actual due. The difference was Rs.45. SBI reported this particular due to CIBIL and it was reflecting in my CIBIL report. But my overall score good so I was not facing any issue in getting home loan and credit cards.

Finally I settled this amount through net banking and I informed to SBI. Again I did not get any reply other than the automated receipt mail. I got the confirmation from them only after writing to their CEO.

Anyways take it up through their internal mechanism first and if it not getting resolved in 30 days write to ombudsman.

Can't you check the details yourself? Assuming you have netbanking enabled for the card? If not, I suggest you get the netbanking activated at once.

I regularly check my "unbilled summary" and it helps. A couple of times, HDFC only reversed the surcharge amount and not the service tax they charge on the surcharge! Wouldn't have known it otherwise and the adjustment would have carried over to the next billing cycle. Another time, they slapped a overlimit fee, even though I had payed my due a day before and subsequently used the card for a largish transaction. Sure enough, after my writing to them, it was reversed, in the same cycle.

As for the companies using PayU, look up on their site - they must be advertising all the big players who are using it.

Is netbanking available for Credit Card accounts ? SBI's service levels have down steadily over the last couple of years.

If you also have a savings account with the bank, you can just mail them and they will link the card to your savings account netbanking. Otherwise, you can register with the PIN that you receive with the card. That's how it is with HDFC, not sure about SBI though.

Yes, very much. Have it and use regularly for my StanChart, ICICI & Amex cards. I used to have SBI-card long ago, but don't remember if they had netbanking.

Re: The Credit Card Thread

Would someone please answer my queries.
I see that some one made enquires on my Cibil report. But i haven't applied for any home/car/bike/personal loan. How can i get it fixed?
Cancelling a Credit Card will have any impact on my CIBIL score? its a new card and i am not satisfied with it.
What all documents one need to take from the bank when he closes his credit card?
Do i have to check anything else?

Re: The Credit Card Thread

For the last billing cycle, I saw a transaction on my card statement and I don't seem to remember doing it. They have printed some jumbled up letters under transaction details in the statement. When I called up customer care and asked where this transaction was done, they told me that the same thing is displaying on their screen as well and they do not know where the transaction was done. Now I'm not sure whether this transaction is fraud or if I have genuinely done that and forgotten about it.

Is there a way I can find out where I have done the transaction or is it a lost cause?

Yes. SBI does have netbanking. You can register at www.sbicard.com. I have been using this site to check on all the unbilled transactions I do on my SBI card from time to time.
