But this has led to ridiculous speculation online about the nature of the accident, and unreasonable expectations on what the police should be doing to investigate it. Frankly if the police take cognisance of this matter and proceed even against the self confessed driver, they would be doing far more than they do in similar incidents. I once had an accident where a speeding Trax rammed into my car which was stationary at 8 am at a red signal (same jurisdiction as this crash). My car was pushed forward several feet, and the rear was smashed badly. There were no injuries since I was alone in the car, wearing a seat belt and there was no car in front of me. The Trax sped away. Despite noting its number and filing an FIR, no action was taken, and I had to pay the insurance deductible and lose my no claim bonus. Checks with a senior police officer we know revealed that the standard procedure in cases no involving death or very serious injury is to file it and forget it. Don't see how the "poor" driver of the Trax was less culpable than the driver of the Aston Martin. Fortunately, no one was hurt badly in this incident, and the driver concerned would have learned a relatively cheap lesson on the dangers of speeding.
What the company has done for India is a separate issue. And I also know them well - I will say this, when it comes to their interest or reputation they let nothing stand in their way, be it rivals, politicians or rules. You can argue that that is the only way business can be done in India. Perhaps that is the case but it was more true in Dhirubhai's time. However, the hangover continues.

A lot of people here are asking why the focus on this incident when accidents happen everyday. Unfortunately, big names and famous people make news. Consumers of news want to read about this stuff. It's supply and demand. Which is why a taxi driver hitting a few cars won't attract this much attention.

You also make a good point that no one died and the cops are inclined to let cases like that be. So then, why not admit to the incident and face the music, however subdued it might be? It'll make the kid more of a man and this incident will stand him in good stead when he takes over Reliance. I think admitting fault will do more for their reputation than trying to muzzle reports.

Take a look at the comments section below the article in the link :-

I think it's very fair. Whatever happened cannot be undone.
They retain their old cars and get brand new ones as well. Perhaps some money too.

Looks like the media manipulation has started. This is probably the media strategy to ensure people stop tracking this news by publishing the news about the settlement.

Regards,
This whole situation is extremely sad!!

I find the people who are Acting as if they are 100% sure it was Ambani junior are behaving in the same way as the people who always blame the bigger car on the road for an incident.

Even though I do agree that it's all a bit sketchy..
Escort suv's following the AM, disappearing from the scene, the silence and cooperation from the owners of the other cars.. Not to mention an insurance company that pays out within days in India (that too enough for an A6 rather than the damaged A4).

I think we will have to give the benefit of doubt to the media, police and the Ambani's. after all, there is someone saying 'I did it'. If it is a lie (highly likely), it is sad that the integrity of the Audi owner is non existent. They can't be just poor power-less people. After all, they did buy a 25 year old an A4! They should stand up and do what's ethically right. Lets hope they have!!

It wasn't an upgrade for A4, the lady was already having the A6.

Re: Why the media blackout on the Aston Martin crash?

I was following the Zee news clip (when it had initially reported the crash) yesterday on you tube, a lady clearly mentions on camera that it was the son who was behind the wheels and fled after accident. Now, on the contrary (as per media reports) the lady has given a different version and has refused to clearly identify the driver. Compensation has changed the versions so fast.

What does this reflect? Can the agencies not take suo-moto cognizance of the two versions and question the lady. But, the truth is no one is willing to take this further given the involvement of high and mighty.

I am sure the driver in this case would have learnt a lesson for his life and would not repeat such a thing again. You can't be lucky every time.

Agree with you here. It's close to 'mob justice', which is never a good thing. I have my own opinion of what happened, but I also understand that i may be completely wrong.

What's worse is these cheap blogs spinning stories about peoples deaths just to get eyeballs.

Re: Super-Cars & Exotic Imports Crashes in India

Sure, make this incident more confusing for everyone involved or otherwise and people will lose interest. I think this particular case, the way it has been blown up, doesn't deserve to be so. There was an accident in which three cars were involved. No one was hurt. Via mutual agreement everyone got whatever compensation was asked for by the insurance companies or Santa - who cares. End of story.

The important thing here was that NO ONE WAS HURT.

Case closed. Move on.

I have to set the record straight here. If someone had been killed or seriously injured, my view would have been very different. Salman Khan (and others such as Sanjiv Nanda) have got away with murder (which is what killing someone with a drunk driving "accident" is). A drunk truck driver might never get convicted given our glacial judicial system, but usually spends years in jail awaiting trial - bail is the rule for the rich but not for poor people. The difference here is that no one got killed or seriously injured, even though someone could have been killed. The same applies to my accident with the Trax - if a pedestrian had been crossing in front of me, the impact on my car could have hurt the pedestrian. Unfortunately, our overburdened legal system does not usually prosecute cases with deterrent value - it only punishes cases where people get killed, and that too after several years if at all.

Which insurance company in India passes the claim in 7 days and also provides a new car within days?
When I had to get insurance claim settled for my car which was a total loss it took me 2 months to go through the procedure and get the cash.
Clearly she is lying. Anyone with a bit of common sense can see what's the real story is in this accident.
In any case if Reliance wants to settle then that's good for the people involved. Media has to sell unnecessary coverage.
