I agree with you on this.

One of my lady friends went to Coorg on a solo trip. One evening, she lost her way back to the resort she was staying. It was around 8 pm, and she was in some remote part without a cellular network. Some villagers saw her confused and came forward to help. She was afraid initially as there were no street lights in that area, and the situation was awkward. Plus, the language was an issue. Finally, they told her how to reach the main road and called the resort. Google maps were incorrect in that area.

Overall, India is a safe place to travel (with a few exceptions).
